Rey Mysterio Expected Back in Action This August – WWE legend Rey Mysterio is on track to return to the ring this August after being sidelined for several months with a torn groin. The recovery update was shared by Mysterio’s longtime friend and wrestling veteran Konnan during a recent episode of the Keepin’ It 100 podcast.
Mysterio has not wrestled since the April 18, 2025, episode of SmackDown, the go-home show before WrestleMania 41. On that night, he competed in a six-man tag team match alongside Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix against the American Made faction—Chad Gable, Julius Creed, and Brutus Creed. During the match, Mysterio suffered a torn groin, which led to his removal from his highly anticipated WrestleMania match against El Grande Americano, the masked persona of Chad Gable.
In addition to the torn groin, Mysterio later confirmed he was also dealing with a busted eardrum, compounding his recovery timeline. His absence was felt at WrestleMania, as Rey Fenix stepped in as his replacement for the bout against El Grande Americano.
While he has not wrestled since April, Mysterio has remained visible to fans through various non-wrestling appearances. Most notably, he kicked off the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide premium live event on June 7 in Los Angeles, addressing the crowd and helping to set the tone for the historic crossover show—WWE’s first official event with AAA following the April 19 acquisition.
If his return timeline holds, Mysterio could be back on WWE programming shortly after SummerSlam, which takes place earlier in August. That could set the stage for him to reenter storylines heading into WWE’s fall season.
