Goldberg Returns on RAW, Challenges GUNTHER at Saturday Night’s Main Event – As expected, WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg made his return on the June 16 edition of RAW, confronting GUNTHER and officially issuing a challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship. The match is now set for Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 in Atlanta, the city where tensions between the two first began months ago.
The segment began with GUNTHER making his way to the ring for a promo. The World Heavyweight Champion addressed his WrestleMania loss to Jey Uso, admitting that Jey was the better man on that one night. However, GUNTHER quickly reminded the audience that on every other night, he remains “untouchable.”
He acknowledged recent speculation about his next opponent, including the presence of Money in the Bank briefcase holder Seth Rollins. GUNTHER didn’t shy away from the spotlight, saying:
“Seth has the briefcase. I have what Seth wants. A few weeks ago, he said once he wins his title back, he’ll be a target. Well, since I’m the target, I’ll make it easy for him — I’m right here.”
Before GUNTHER could continue, the familiar music of Goldberg hit to a massive ovation. The Hall of Famer entered the ring and thanked the crowd before turning his attention to the champion.
Goldberg told GUNTHER not to be confused, stating that tonight was his night and that he respected GUNTHER’s recent title win. However, the tone quickly shifted as Goldberg referenced an unresolved issue:
“A few months ago, you started something with me and my family in Atlanta. And I’m damn sure I’ll end it in Atlanta — July 12, Saturday Night’s Main Event.”
Goldberg closed with his signature challenge, locking eyes with the champion and declaring, “You’re next!“
The return marks Goldberg’s first appearance since late 2023 and immediately puts him in the title picture. WWE has now confirmed that GUNTHER vs. Goldberg for the World Heavyweight Championship will headline Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta on July 12.
