Possible Date and Location for Goldberg’s Retirement Match – WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg has revealed a key detail about the location of his long-awaited retirement match, confirming in an interview with MySA that the bout will take place “in the South.” While the exact venue is still under wraps, this revelation has sparked heavy speculation that Atlanta, Georgia—Goldberg’s hometown and a city closely tied to his wrestling legacy—is the most likely host.
“It’s going to be in the South,” Goldberg told MySA. “This gives me the opportunity to put a stamp on my career in front of the people I care the most about.”
Goldberg has strong ties to Atlanta, having played college football for the University of Georgia and later joining the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Throughout his wrestling career, he was consistently billed from Atlanta, and he made a headline-making appearance at WWE Bad Blood 2024 in the city’s State Farm Arena, where he confronted GUNTHER in a tense moment that hinted at a potential final showdown.
While WWE has yet to officially announce a date or opponent, the 58-year-old legend confirmed that he’s been training for the past four months to prepare for his first match since February 2022. Notably, MySA reported that Goldberg has been granted “some creative control of the rollout plans” for announcing the match.
In a related update, Fightful Select reports that WWE internally has a Saturday Night’s Main Event scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025, the same day AEW will hold its All In pay-per-view. However, the two promotions won’t go head-to-head, as AEW’s event will air in the afternoon and WWE’s special is expected to broadcast later that night.
While Fightful emphasized that “nothing is official, and we can’t confirm that will be the actual retirement of Goldberg”, sources confirmed that “he is absolutely being discussed for that planned show.”
If Atlanta is confirmed as the host city and July 12 is made official, Goldberg’s final match could be positioned not only as a personal milestone but also as a strategic counter to AEW’s biggest annual show.
