AEW Stars Pulled from AAA Following WWE Acquisition – WWE’s acquisition of AAA is beginning to influence both creative direction and talent structure within the Mexican promotion, with new reports revealing how WWE is reshaping the landscape of lucha libre. According to Fightful Select, WWE has taken an active role in assessing AAA operations, including sending producer Jeremy Borash to recent tapings as a scout to evaluate production and talent.
Sources within AAA told Fightful that some internal shifts have already taken place. At least two individuals in AAA’s leadership structure have reportedly “been knocked down a few pegs of power,” signaling WWE’s growing influence since officially acquiring the promotion on April 19, 2025.
The situation has left many AAA wrestlers—especially those not on official contracts—in a state of uncertainty. While WWE has yet to publicly confirm how talent sharing or integration will be managed long-term, signs of a broader collaborative direction are becoming clearer.
One notable example is the upcoming AAA Mega Championship match between El Hijo del Vikingo and Alberto Del Rio. Sources within AAA suggest the match’s timing—just ahead of the reported WWE Worlds Collide event—is no accident. One insider stated, “Even if they keep Del Rio in the company, that belt is almost surely coming off of him.” Vikingo, they add, is expected to be “a huge part of the partnership moving forward.”
This creative pivot also marks the end of AAA’s working relationship with AEW. AEW talent will no longer appear in AAA programming, reflecting the exclusivity of WWE’s involvement. WWE appears to be using AAA as a developmental extension and an international asset to expand its global reach—especially in Latin America.
Further confirming the direction, PWInsider reports that TNA talent will also be part of the upcoming WWE Worlds Collide show. The concept is being described as a “Forbidden Door” style event, with WWE, NXT, AAA, and TNA all contributing talent. While details are still emerging, this interpromotional special is expected to provide fans with a rare and unprecedented showcase of top stars from across multiple promotions under the WWE umbrella.
With WWE’s creative teams increasingly involved and scouting in place, the once-fluid relationships between AAA and other American promotions have taken a definitive turn. WWE’s expansion into Mexico is no longer theoretical—it’s actively reshaping the future of AAA and laying the groundwork for bold cross-promotional efforts moving forward.
