WWE Acquires Lucha Libre AAA, Announces Worlds Collide Event – In a landmark announcement ahead of WrestleMania 41 Saturday, WWE annpunced the acquisition of Mexico’s premier lucha libre promotion, Lucha Libre AAA. The historic move further strengthens WWE’s international reach and deepens its commitment to global wrestling partnerships.
WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque broke the news during a press event featuring several top lucha stars. He was joined by AAA owners Marisela Peña and Dorian Roldán, and declared that WWE is poised to “take Lucha Libre to another level.”
To kick off this new chapter, WWE announced a special crossover event — NXT x AAA: Worlds Collide — which will take place on June 7 at the KIA Forum in Los Angeles. This event promises to showcase the best of both brands, offering fans dream matchups that blend WWE’s future stars with AAA’s rich tradition of lucha libre excellence.
Several major names were in attendance for the announcement, including Rey Mysterio, Stephanie Vaquer, Rey Fenix, Penta, Andrade, El Hijo del Vikingo, and Santos Escobar, among others — highlighting the magnitude of this partnership.
The acquisition marks WWE’s first official purchase of an international promotion since its buyout of EVOLVE Wrestling in 2020. The addition of AAA to WWE’s portfolio brings with it a deep history, a massive fan base in Latin America, and an influx of elite lucha talent that could reshape the NXT and WWE rosters going forward.
More information on the Worlds Collide card and the future integration of AAA talent into WWE programming is expected to follow in the weeks ahead.
