Plans for Rusev’s Upcoming Feud – A hard-hitting rivalry could soon reignite on WWE RAW, as PWInsider reports that a program between Rusev and Sheamus has been pitched for the red brand.
Rusev made his return to WWE in April 2025 after a five-year absence, following his 2020 release and a successful run in AEW under the name Miro, where he captured the TNT Championship. He reappeared during the April 21 edition of RAW, making an immediate impact by attacking the Alpha Academy. It was later reported that Rusev signed a new two-year contract with WWE, solidifying his full-time return. He is scheduled to face Akira Tozawa on the May 26 episode of RAW.
Rusev’s wife, CJ Perry (formerly known as Lana), is also back in the WWE fold, having signed a Legends contract, which could signal more involvement in future storylines.
Meanwhile, Sheamus has been a consistent presence on RAW in 2025 following his return from injury. The multi-time world champion recently signed a five-year contract extension and has been competing actively in recent weeks.
The prospect of a feud between Rusev and Sheamus would not be without historical context. The two previously clashed over the United States Championship in late 2014, with Rusev defeating Sheamus for the title on the November 3 edition of RAW via the WWE Network—marking his first championship win in WWE. They were later aligned as part of The League of Nations faction from late 2015 to April 2016 alongside Alberto Del Rio and King Barrett, primarily serving as foils to Roman Reigns during that era.
With both men known for their aggressive, brawling styles, a feud between Rusev and Sheamus could bring a physical edge to RAW’s midcard scene. It would offer Rusev a meaningful storyline as he reestablishes his presence, while also giving Sheamus a strong opponent with whom he shares considerable history. Though not centered around a title, this program has the potential to be a standout non-title feud that adds depth to Monday nights.
