Lyra Valkyria Opens Up About Sudden Title Win and Embracing the Pressure – WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria recently shared some revealing behind-the-scenes details about her title win—and how she wasn’t told about it until the very last minute.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Valkyria explained that she wasn’t involved in any conversations ahead of time and only found out the day of the match that she’d be winning the gold.
“I never was a part of that conversation,” Valkyria said. “I just find out on Mondays what I’m doing. I found out the day of. I was never a part of the decision or the conversation. I just showed up to work.”
Despite the unexpected nature of the moment, Valkyria has embraced the responsibility that comes with being champion. She admitted that while the experience has brought a lot of pressure, it’s also given her a huge boost in confidence.
“(I got) a lot of confidence (from it). It’s a big responsibility, and there’s a lot of pressure that comes with it,” she said. “But I think I’m kind of in control once I get in the ring. That’s where I’m like, no matter what outside noise there is, I’m completely in control of what I do here. So that’s kind of where my power is. No one can take that away.”
Since winning the title, Valkyria has established herself as one of the most consistent in-ring performers in the women’s division—and her rise doesn’t appear to be slowing down any time soon.
