Teddy Long Says R-Truth’s WWE Release Was Real Business Decision – WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long has stated clearly that R-Truth’s recent release from WWE was a genuine business move, and he believes the company’s attempt to frame it as a storyline after R-Truth’s return at Money in the Bank was a failed cover-up. Speaking on his “Road Trip After Hours” podcast, Long dismissed the idea that the entire situation was scripted from the start.
When host Mac Davis asked whether the situation was a “work or shoot,” Long was direct. “It’s a shoot,” he said. “Jesus Christ. What does it take for these people?”
Davis agreed, pointing out the fan reaction. “The sad part is… WWE came in and they tried to make it sound like it was a work. They tried to sell the fans, this is a work,” Davis said. “And every fan out there, I don’t care if you are young or old, everybody, pretty much, went, ‘nah. That’s not the case. This guy got fired. You screwed up, and now you’re trying to cover up the stench of a screw up by saying, ‘Oh no, that was planned the whole time.’ I don’t believe that for a second.”
Long summed up his thoughts by saying, “To me, it’s old news,” emphasizing that he sees it as a straightforward business decision with WWE pivoting to a storyline after fan backlash rather than a planned angle.
Long also noted that he had spoken to R-Truth (Ron Killings) before the latter’s return and that Killings was in a good place personally. At the time of the release, there were reports of interest from other promotions, including TNA. However, Killings is now back in WWE and is expected to continue, likely for a final run.
Multiple outlets have confirmed that Ron Killings’ release was indeed a shoot and not part of any WWE storyline.
