Eric Bischoff Believes R-Truth’s WWE Release Was Always a Work – WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff weighed in on the recent saga surrounding R-Truth’s short-lived release and return to WWE, suggesting on his latest 83 Weeks podcast that the entire situation may have been orchestrated from the start.
“It’s a work. It is a narrative. It is an act that creates emotion, a very specific, desired emotion. Therefore, it is a work,” Bischoff stated emphatically. “Has anybody really debated kind of like they did with the NWO, and it was Scott Hall initially?… That was debated as this is being debated. It’s a work.”
Bischoff’s comments refer to the recent situation in which R-Truth was reportedly released by WWE, only to return shortly afterward. While WWE never officially confirmed the release, multiple outlets stated that Truth had been informed his contract would not be renewed. The backlash from fans and even members of the locker room reportedly prompted WWE President Nick Khan to step in, ultimately leading to a new agreement being reached.
Despite these reports, Bischoff remains convinced that the situation had the hallmarks of a calculated storyline. However, he did admit one element gave him pause — the involvement of R-Truth’s children on social media, who posted emotional reactions at the time of the alleged release.
“The only reason I’m not laughing myself out of the studio… is when you involve your kids and they’re out there, that that puts, yeah, I’m kind of back to center on that one, because that’s outside of the box of norm,” Bischoff admitted. “But by definition, it’s a work, and I think it’s great.”
While there is no official confirmation from WWE on whether the situation was real or scripted, Bischoff’s comments add to the ongoing debate over how much of what unfolds behind the scenes is genuine versus storyline-driven in today’s WWE.
