Update on Hikaru Shida – Hikaru Shida has clarified the reason behind her extended absence from AEW, revealing that visa complications are keeping her from returning to the United States.
The former three-time AEW Women’s World Champion has not been seen on AEW television since November 2024. During a recent YouTube stream, Shida addressed a fan’s question about her return and explained that her prolonged time away is due to delays in the U.S. visa renewal process.
“I really hope to,” Shida said. “Visa, especially nowadays, it’s getting hard. AEW has so many wrestlers and the lawyer has to do so many things. I know it takes time. I hope I can go back to AEW soon. For now, I am enjoying my stay in Japan and getting more energy to wrestle in the US again. I’m looking forward to my comeback. Please wait and I’m so glad if you support me.”
Shida emphasized that she remains committed to AEW and is eager to resume wrestling in the U.S. once her documentation is approved. Until then, she continues training and making appearances in Japan while awaiting clearance to travel.
Shida’s most recent AEW run saw her defeat Saraya to regain the AEW Women’s World Championship before eventually dropping the title to Toni Storm at Full Gear 2024. Her absence has been noticeable as AEW’s women’s division continues to evolve in her absence.
