CM Punk Confronts John Cena, Title Match Set for Night of Champions – On the June 9 episode of WWE RAW, tensions exploded as John Cena stepped into the ring for what he called part of his limited farewell tour, only to be met by CM Punk, setting the stage for a major main event at Night of Champions.
Cena opened the segment with a scathing promo, calling out the WWE Universe and mocking their support of R-Truth, who impersonated Cena at Money in the Bank. Cena dismissed Truth as a “side show comedian” and labeled the fans as “spineless keyboard warriors” and “ignorant armchair activists.” He declared that Truth would never again use his name for sympathy and reminded everyone that this was his final run. Cena noted he had 36 dates at the start of 2025, and after WrestleMania and recent appearances, he now only has 19 dates remaining.
Cena demanded the fans send him someone worthy of his time, claiming he had already defeated the likes of Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and R-Truth. That’s when CM Punk’s music hit.
Punk walked to the ring and told Cena to get comfortable because he had a lot to say. He criticized Cena’s transformation from hero to what he called a corrupted man, using his power and the title to serve his ego. Punk said he’s not defending TKO or WWE’s billionaires—he’s fighting for the fans.
“You knew then and you know now what you’re doing is wrong,” Punk said, referencing their previous clash at Elimination Chamber, where Cena put Punk in the STF as he was unconscious. Punk accused Cena of taking shortcuts and letting the title change him. He admitted that the belt nearly did the same to him in 2012 and said he never intended to chase it again—until Cena forced his hand.
Punk said Cena had 18 dates left and challenged him to put the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line tonight.
Cena responded by announcing one final match between The Best in the World and The Greatest of All Time—but not on RAW. Instead, Cena declared they would clash at Night of Champions on June 28 in Saudi Arabia. “Ball is in your court,” Cena told Punk. “If you want the title match, we do it at Night of Champions.”
Punk accepted the challenge, making it official.
