Drew McIntyre Reflects on CM Punk Feud

Drew McIntyre Reflects on CM Punk Feud – Drew McIntyre recently opened up about his intense 2024 feud with CM Punk, acknowledging that their on-screen animosity was fueled by legitimate personal tension. Speaking on the Gorilla Position podcast, McIntyre called the rivalry “lightning in a bottle” and admitted the emotional weight behind the segments made for compelling TV.

“The thing about this industry is there’s going to be peaks and valleys… during that time, we kind of caught lightning in a bottle, and people could feel that things were a little bit different with Punk and AEW,” McIntyre said. “They were very much real. The feelings were real. And we are professionals… The result of a couple of people that really good at their job who genuinely don’t like each other with that level of creativity was what you saw.”

Despite the tension, McIntyre emphasized the professionalism he and Punk maintained for the sake of the product.

“When you get people who are at the top of their game, like the two of us, no matter how we feel about each other, you’re gonna get compelling television.”

One of the most buzzworthy moments of the feud came when Punk appeared to bait McIntyre into saying Vince McMahon’s name on air. McIntyre confessed he considered firing back with a brutal retort.

“It crossed my mind, the conversation in my head, do I do it? And do I say the same person that fired on your wedding day? Which did cross my mind, but again, somebody’s got to be the professional out there.”

McIntyre also reaffirmed his personal boundary when it comes to promos, stating clearly: “Family is off limits.” He added, “As far as the guys just unloading. And if anyone’s sensible, some people have got upset with the things I’ve said. You’re not that character. That’s not really. You grow up.”

The feud between McIntyre and Punk was hailed for its raw, emotionally charged segments—many of which blurred the line between reality and fiction. Now, with both men charting different courses, McIntyre’s behind-the-scenes insight confirms what many fans suspected: it was as real as it looked.
