R-Truth Announces WWE Release – R-Truth has announced his departure from WWE, ending a beloved and memorable run that began in 2008. The longtime fan favorite, known for his comedic antics and ability to connect with audiences, shared the news in a heartfelt social media post on June 1.
“I’m sorry to inform you all. I just got released from WWE. I want to thank WWE for the ride, but MOSTLY I want to thank each and EVERYONE OF YOU who was along for the ride. Thank you for all the love, support, and appreciation you have given me over the years. Thank you.”
While the release may appear effective immediately, PWInsider reports that R-Truth—real name Ron Killings—still has time remaining on his current contract. WWE informed him that the deal would not be renewed, and once it expires, he will officially become a free agent.
Sources close to the situation emphasize that R-Truth’s release was not due to any behavioral issues or misconduct. In fact, WWE reportedly made it clear to him that he had done nothing wrong. The decision came as a surprise to both R-Truth and many within WWE, as he has long been viewed as a “WWE-lifer.” Several talents have reached out to him in the aftermath, with one top star reportedly calling the move “total nonsense” and another referring to WWE’s leadership as “ruthless.”
The reaction from within the company has been described as overwhelmingly negative, with widespread disappointment across the locker room. R-Truth was still heavily featured on television, most recently working with John Cena, Jimmy Uso, and Solo Sikoa on SmackDown. His surprise run as “Ron Cena” even resulted in a top-selling merchandise item.
R-Truth’s career spans decades and includes numerous accolades. He is best known in recent years for his record-breaking 53 reigns as WWE 24/7 Champion, a title he helped define with his signature humor and unpredictable segments. However, his contributions extend far beyond that.
Before his comedic resurgence, he held the United States Championship twice, captured the WWE Tag Team Titles with both Kofi Kingston and The Miz, and was a prominent part of several major WWE storylines. In his early WWE run as K-Kwik, he also won the WWF Hardcore Championship.
Outside WWE, R-Truth achieved historic success in TNA Wrestling, where he became the first officially recognized African American NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion in 2002. He would go on to win the title again and add a TNA Tag Team Championship reign to his resume.
R-Truth’s release ends a chapter in WWE filled with laughter, loyalty, and legacy. Wherever his career takes him next, his impact on the industry—and the affection fans have for him—will remain undeniable.
