John Cena Set to Appear on 5/9 WWE SmackDown – WWE SmackDown on May 9 promises a loaded card as the company heads into WWE Backlash 2025 with key appearances and matches just one night before the premium live event.
The final episode of WWE SmackDown before WWE Backlash 2025 is set for Friday, May 9, and the lineup includes key matches and a major promo segment as WWE builds momentum toward Saturday’s show in St. Louis.
Headlining the episode will be an appearance by John Cena, who will address both the WWE Universe and Randy Orton one last time before their highly anticipated—and potentially final—encounter at Backlash. Cena, who is on the verge of retirement, has just 26 appearances left with WWE. After Backlash, that number drops to 24, further highlighting the stakes of his confrontation with Orton.
Also confirmed for May 9 is a blockbuster tag team match as The Bloodline’s Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa will team up to face Damian Priest and LA Knight. All four men will be involved in Saturday’s Fatal 4-Way match for Fatu’s WWE United States Championship, which also includes Drew McIntyre.
Additionally, Jade Cargill will go one-on-one with Nia Jax in a No. 1 contender’s match for the WWE Women’s Championship. The winner will earn a future title shot against reigning champion Tiffany Stratton. The timing of the championship match has yet to be announced.
