WWE Appears to Spoil AAA Mega Championship Match Ahead of Worlds Collide – WWE may have inadvertently revealed the outcome of an upcoming AAA title match during the May 26 edition of RAW, hinting at a major development set for this weekend.
During RAW, WWE promoted the upcoming Worlds Collide event—part of the new WWE x AAA collaboration—and announced a singles match between Chad Gable and El Hijo del Vikingo. However, the bout was advertised as being for the AAA Mega Championship, a title Vikingo does not currently hold.
Vikingo is scheduled to challenge current AAA Mega Champion Alberto El Patrón this Saturday at an AAA television taping. Given WWE’s promotional graphic for Worlds Collide, which explicitly referred to the match as a title bout, this has led to speculation that Vikingo will win the championship from El Patrón before the crossover event.
Alberto El Patrón has held the AAA Mega Title since August 17, 2024, and has firmly positioned himself as the promotion’s top rudo. He’s aligned himself with Konnan, JBL, and Dorian Roldán in recent months, making his reign a focal point of AAA programming.
Vikingo made a surprise appearance on this week’s RAW, sitting ringside for the Money in the Bank qualifying match involving Chad Gable, Dragon Lee, and Penta. His involvement became physical late in the match when Gable attacked him at ringside. Vikingo later retaliated, climbing onto the apron and kicking Gable off the top rope. Dragon Lee followed with a stomp, but it was Penta who capitalized with a Canadian Destroyer on Lee to earn the pinfall victory.
The angle furthered the tension between Gable and Vikingo, while also potentially setting the stage for a high-stakes title match that now appears to hinge on a title change not yet televised.
As of now, AAA has not publicly confirmed a title change, but all signs point to Vikingo capturing the Mega Championship before Worlds Collide.
