Trick Williams Captures TNA World Title at NXT Battleground – Trick Williams made history at WWE NXT Battleground by defeating Joe Hendry to win the TNA World Championship, becoming the first active WWE talent to hold the title.
In the main event of NXT Battleground, Trick Williams defeated Joe Hendry to capture the TNA World Championship in a physical back-and-forth battle that left fans stunned—and TNA President Carlos Silva visibly disappointed at ringside.
The match opened with Trick playing mind games, dodging Hendry’s offense and taunting him. But Hendry answered with stiff chops, a clothesline to the floor, and a leaping splash at ringside. He kept the pressure on with a delayed suplex and multiple near falls. Trick responded with power of his own, hitting a uranage and a fallaway slam after catching Hendry mid-air.
Late in the match, the momentum swung wildly. Hendry landed a super fallaway slam and nearly won with Standing Ovation, but Trick got a foot on the rope. Trick then went on a tear—dropping Hendry with high-impact offense including a Michinoku Driver, a crossbody, and a neckbreaker barrage. He even locked in a guillotine with body scissors, though Hendry broke free with a suplex.
After both men collided into the ring steps, Trick hit a uranage on the announce table followed by a flying knee that nearly ended it. Trick then introduced the TNA title belt into the match. While the referee stopped him from using it, the distraction allowed Trick to rake Hendry’s eyes and slam him face-first into the belt with a flapjack. He followed up with a final jumping knee to score the victory.
Williams now joins Kenny Omega and Christian Cage as one of the only non-TNA-contracted wrestlers to win the TNA World Title—and the first while actively signed with WWE.
