Cobb’s move to WWE had been in the works for some time, with his name reportedly appearing on internal WWE rosters months ago—despite his continued involvement in NJPW programming.
While still under contract with New Japan, Cobb raised eyebrows by staying vague about his plans and even teasing retirement in public interviews. However, insiders now confirm that Cobb is not only leaving NJPW, but has signed a “good deal” with WWE.
Interestingly, Cobb was part of a tag team title storyline late into his NJPW tenure, which confused several people backstage who were aware of his plans to leave. Despite his impending exit, he fulfilled all contractual commitments before officially departing the promotion.
It remains unclear which WWE brand Cobb will join upon debut—RAW, SmackDown, or NXT—but his signing adds a powerful, internationally respected athlete to WWE’s roster. Known for his explosive in-ring style and Olympic wrestling background, Cobb previously wrestled briefly for Ring of Honor, Lucha Underground (as Matanza Cueto), and AEW. He even made a brief appearance for WWE during a tryout period, though he never signed at the time.
