WWE Scrapped Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair Tag Plans

WWE Scrapped Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair Tag Plans – WWE originally considered a major creative direction for Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch earlier this year, with internal discussions proposing that the two longtime rivals form a tag team heading into WrestleMania 41. However, those plans were eventually shelved in favor of separate storylines for each star.

According to a report from PWInsider, WWE’s early creative pitches called for Flair and Lynch to align following Flair’s return from injury at the Royal Rumble. The idea was to build toward a high-profile tag team match at WrestleMania, where they would challenge Damage CTRL members IYO SKY and Asuka.

“The pitch would have seen them unite around The Royal Rumble and then face IYO SKY and Asuka around WrestleMania, but plans eventually changed,” the report noted.

Ultimately, WWE chose different paths for both women. Charlotte Flair went on to challenge Tiffany Stratton in a singles match for the WWE Women’s Championship on Night 1 of WrestleMania 41. Despite a strong performance, Flair came up short in her title pursuit.

Becky Lynch, on the other hand, returned to action at WrestleMania with a new partner. Teaming with Lyra Valkyria, Lynch captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles by defeating Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. However, the reign was short-lived. On the RAW following WrestleMania, Morgan and Rodriguez regained the titles in a rematch.

That night’s episode also featured a major twist. Following the loss, Lynch shocked the WWE Universe by turning heel, viciously attacking Valkyria—her own tag team partner. This marked a significant character shift for Lynch, who had been positioned as a top babyface for much of the past few years.

The original concept of Flair and Lynch working together would have been a dramatic storyline development, considering their storied and often volatile history. The two have famously been both allies and rivals throughout their WWE careers, with real-life tension often spilling into their on-screen personas.

While the tag team idea never materialized, both Flair and Lynch remain central figures in WWE’s women’s division, and their paths may still intersect in the near future—whether as allies or adversaries.
