AEW Backstage Issues Raise Worries of Escalation

AEW Backstage Issues Raise Worries of Escalation – Over the past year, there has been a noticeable shift in the backstage atmosphere at AEW, with some attributing this change to CM Punk’s presence. Issues between Punk and certain individuals within the promotion, along with a lack of favoritism from some towards the top star, have been pointed to as contributing factors.

The recent incident that unfolded after the AEW Collision taping in Greensboro is not an isolated occurrence; reports suggest that such an environment has been prevalent since the inception of Collision and CM Punk’s return to AEW.

Internal tensions appear to be centered around AEW President Tony Khan, as concerns have been raised by AEW talents and staff members regarding his ability to lead effectively. The challenges linked to managing the extensive responsibilities tied to the upcoming grand All In show set to take place at Wembley Stadium in London have added to these concerns.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided additional insight into the situation, highlighting that while the majority of the crew maintains a harmonious atmosphere, there are factions within the backstage environment and certain veterans who are not directly involved in the conflicts are expressing their worries. They believe that if the issues aren’t addressed promptly, the situation could escalate and potentially worsen over time.

“For the most part, the crew is harmonious, but there are those tired of it, different cliques, and a couple of the backstage veterans who aren’t part of the actual conflict directly, expressed concern to us this week that unless things are handled now, they are risking things getting far worse.”
