CM Punk Shoots On Adam Page – Following his participation in the main event of the August 12 episode of AEW Collision, CM Punk took to the mic to address the audience. In this matchup, Punk joined forces with FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) against House of Black (Buddy Matthews, Malakai Black, & Brody King) in a contest for the AEW Trios Title.
Punk was choked out by Samoa Joe in the crowd during the match, but recovered enough to cut a promo after the show went off the air.
“Carolina is Hangman country [referencing a sign in the crowd]. Earlier today, I went to a local supermarket and I figured out why the call him Hangman. It’s because the pegs in the toy aisle are full of Hangman action figures because nobody wants to buy them. He’s a peg warmer, unlike me, who moves merchandise, pops ratings, sells toys. You got everybody in AEW saying, ‘I’m the heart, I’m the soul, I’m the spirit.’ Well, that’s objective [subjective], what’s a fact is the people who say that certainly aren’t the chin of AEW because the lights go out faster than…what? GTS, Go To Sleep, I don’t know what I’m trying to do. I got rocked too. I told the House of Black, ‘no chops,’ and they chopped me, so I’m very mad,” he said.
For those who may not be familiar with the backstory, the rift between CM Punk and The Elite began in the early part of the previous year. The conflict traces back to Hangman Page’s remarks, where he openly expressed his desire to remove Punk from AEW, citing concerns about his impact on the locker room dynamics. This unscripted statement initiated a period of tension, culminating in their match at Double Or Nothing.
During their encounter at Double Or Nothing, there were indications of strained relations between Punk and Hangman. Punk harbored suspicions that Hangman may have intentionally delivered a stiff clothesline during the match. Hangman’s initial remarks were rooted in his perception that Punk played a role in Colt Cabana’s absence from backstage events.
The situation escalated further when Punk veered off script and made remarks about Hangman, resulting in a backstage altercation involving The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega following the All Out event.
