Jey Uso Officially Joins King of the Ring Tournament – WWE has finalized the lineup for this year’s King of the Ring tournament, revealing Jey Uso as the mystery entrant for the final open spot. Uso will now compete in a fatal four-way match on RAW this Monday against Bronson Reed, Sheamus, and Rusev in the tournament’s first round.
The surprise announcement comes on the heels of Jey’s loss to GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship on RAW this past week. WWE shared a video today in which RAW General Manager Adam Pearce explained the rationale behind the decision. Pearce stated that the final spot in the tournament had been purposely left open, reserved for whoever came up short in the GUNTHER vs. Uso title match.
Uso previously defeated GUNTHER at WrestleMania 41 to win the World Heavyweight Title, only to drop the belt back to him on the June 9 episode of RAW after a 51-day reign. Now, Jey’s road back to the top could run through the King of the Ring tournament. If he wins, he’ll earn a rematch against GUNTHER for the title at SummerSlam.
Sami Zayn has already advanced to the semifinals and will face the winner of a SmackDown-side first-round fatal four-way match between Randy Orton, LA Knight, Carmelo Hayes, and Aleister Black.
The King and Queen of the Ring tournament finals are set for Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia on June 28. On the women’s side, Roxanne Perez has already advanced to the semifinals, and additional first-round matches are scheduled for tonight’s SmackDown in Lexington, Kentucky.
