Carlito Reveals Triple H Was “Never a Big Fan” of His Character – In his first public comments since WWE opted not to renew his contract, Carlito spoke openly about his most recent two-year stint with the company, citing improved locker room morale and creative flexibility as the biggest differences compared to his first run.
Appearing on Busted Open Radio, the former Intercontinental Champion expressed both gratitude and frustration—grateful for a more positive work environment, yet disappointed by the abrupt conclusion of his storyline with The Judgment Day.
Carlito described the WWE environment under Paul “Triple H” Levesque as a vast improvement from the tense backstage atmosphere of the past. “It was weird, showing up to work happy,” he said. “Just all the tension and just all the old school bullshit… people walking around on eggshells. Now, with AEW being around too, it’s helped. They can’t bully, because there’s a place for people to go… Hunter has done a good job of just cleaning all that crap out.”
While Carlito wasn’t surprised his deal wasn’t renewed, he admitted the lack of closure for his role in The Judgment Day was disheartening. “I’m a professional… at least let me finish out the story for the Judgment Day so they can keep on going,” he stated. “I think it’s a disrespect to the fans that… they just dropped storylines.”
Interestingly, Carlito said his comedic persona within the group was entirely his own creation. “That was all my ideas. Because I took literally nothing… and I made something with it,” he explained. WWE writers eventually gave him more freedom, often letting him improvise segments based on his proven success. “Every week it was great. They would just hand me a thing and say, ‘do what you do.’”
Despite enjoying the run overall, Carlito acknowledged he was never truly a priority within the company. “Hunter is not a fan of Carlito,” he claimed. “I think, personally, he likes me, but I think he never was a big fan of the character.” Still, he considered the run a success: “It actually went better than I thought it would go.”
With his WWE chapter closed once again, Carlito is already sorting through offers. “Yeah, I still got a bunch of emails I gotta get back to. So people, you know, be patient with me,” he told listeners, noting that he’s currently managing his own calendar.
Carlito’s second run may not have ended with a major storyline payoff, but it showcased his veteran presence, comedic timing, and ability to connect with fans—traits that should continue to serve him well as he evaluates his next move.
