5/9 WWE SmackDown Viewership Rises to 1.455 Million – The May 9, 2025 edition of WWE SmackDown saw a boost in viewership as the blue brand drew an average of 1.455 million viewers, according to Programming Insider. This marks an increase from the previous week’s episode, which averaged 1.406 million viewers.
SmackDown also improved in the key 18–49 demographic, earning a 0.41 rating, up from last week’s 0.37. These numbers reflect a positive trend for WWE heading into its Backlash fallout and Money In The Bank build.
The episode opened with a notable tag team match, as LA Knight and Damian Priest defeated Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu, creating friction within The Bloodline and setting the stage for future developments.
In women’s division action, WWE Women’s United States Champion Zelina Vega teamed with the returning Alexa Bliss in a successful outing against Chelsea Green and Piper Niven, giving Bliss momentum following her return and highlighting Vega’s championship presence.
Aleister Black continued his dominant run on SmackDown, defeating Carmelo Hayes in a hard-hitting singles contest that impressed fans and furthered Black’s resurgence.
The show closed with a fiery in-ring promo segment featuring John Cena and Randy Orton, just one day before their Undisputed WWE Championship match at Backlash. Cena delivered an emotional and intense address, but Orton had the final word by hitting Cena with an RKO, sending a clear message ahead of their clash.
SmackDown’s rise in both viewership and the 18–49 demo reflects continued interest in WWE’s evolving storylines, especially around marquee stars like Cena, Orton, and the Bloodline.
