Becky Lynch Reveals Health Setback Delayed Her WWE Comeback – Becky Lynch’s return to WWE at WrestleMania 41 in April 2025 was one of the weekend’s biggest moments, but “The Man” has now revealed that the road back wasn’t as straightforward as fans may have thought.
In a recent interview with Variety.com, Lynch opened up about the unexpected delay in her WWE comeback and how it changed her original plans. Lynch had not competed in WWE since May 2024, following her loss of the WWE Women’s World Championship to Liv Morgan. Initially, she believed her time away would be brief.
“I took what I thought was going to be three months off during the summer, when my contract came up… ‘Okay, seems like a good time to take a little break, get some stuff done,’” Lynch said, explaining that the break aligned with the end of her previous contract. During that time, she pursued various projects, including a role in the Star Trek franchise and involvement in a Happy Gilmore-related film.
Talks of a WWE return began to ramp up as the Royal Rumble approached in January 2025. However, Lynch said a surprise medical issue derailed those plans. “There was talk [of a return] around Rumble time,” she revealed. “But then at the last minute, I got a skin condition.”
Rather than forcing a rushed comeback, WWE pivoted to having her return on the grandest stage of all. Lynch re-emerged at WrestleMania 41, targeting Bayley and inserting herself directly into the Women’s World Title picture. Looking back, she embraced the revised timing. “The next big event was WrestleMania, so it seemed to make sense, especially if I could take Bayley out of the mix and ruin her dreams. It felt doubly brilliant,” she added.
Lynch’s candid comments shed light on the behind-the-scenes decisions that shaped her long-awaited return and confirm that even WWE’s most calculated plans can be derailed by real-life obstacles.
Since returning, Lynch has wasted no time getting back into title contention. However, her most recent opportunity came up short. At WWE Backlash: St. Louis on May 10, she challenged Lyra Valkyria for the WWE Women’s United States Championship but was unsuccessful in dethroning the reigning champion. Despite the setback, Lynch’s presence in the division continues to make an impact as she remains a central figure in the women’s roster.
