Update on WWE Tribute to the Troops – As noted, WWE’s long-running Tribute to the Troops event is currently on hiatus, but discussions suggest the special may make a comeback in the future. Initially conceived as a tribute to American troops stationed overseas, the event gained popularity for its tours of military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan before shifting to U.S. bases in 2010.
The special was held annually until 2019, when WWE transitioned from televised broadcasts to live house shows, including one at Marine Corps Air Station New River and Camp Lejeune. In 2020, WWE resumed airing Tribute to the Troops as part of SmackDown tapings, a format it maintained through 2023.
However, according to Dave Meltzer, the event did not take place in 2024 due to logistical challenges and WWE’s packed schedule. WrestleVotes recently commented during a Backstage Pass Q&A, hinting at WWE’s plans to revitalize the tradition. While details remain uncertain, the company reportedly aims to return the event to its “roots,” potentially revisiting military bases in the U.S. or even overseas.
WrestleVotes explained, “I think they wanted to get back into maybe the bases here in America and things like that, and they just didn’t have the organization to do that this time around. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it came back next year in more of a traditional military-based type of environment that we were used to before they changed to just the standard arena show.”
Whether through a return to military installations or by reintroducing overseas tours, WWE’s Tribute to the Troops could once again become a meaningful tradition that directly honors the service and sacrifices of military personnel.
