WWE RAW Results - August 17, 2020

WWE RAW Results - August 17, 2020
Tonight's RAW opens up with the "Then. Now. Forever." video but it's experiencing some technical difficulties, likely the work of RETRIBUTION. We cut to the normal RAW intro video.

- We're live on tape delay from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida as Tom Phillips welcomes us. He's joined by Byron Saxton and Samoa Joe. Tom apologizes for the technical difficulties and mentions concern over RETRIBUTION.

- We go right to the ring and out comes WWE Champion Drew McIntyre to a pop. Before he can speak, we take a look back at what Randy Orton did to Ric Flair last week on Raw.

Back in the ring, Drew says what Randy Orton did last week was completely unforgiveable. Randy Orton brutalized Ric Flair. Not just the legend, 16 time champ, 2 time Hall of Famer, and icon. He is a 71 year old man. Ric is someone you grew up around. For 20 years, he was your mentor and protector. With a tear in his eye, he told you he wanted you to break his record and that he loved you. You are pure evil. What did you do after he poured his heart out? You kicked him in his damn skull.

At SummerSlam, you are not facing an old man, you are facing a pissed off Scottish monster. Think about every time that you have been hurt in your career. Remember when you faced Mick Foley and used those weapons on him. You took the torch from him. Forget the weapons in that match, I am a damn weapon. I wish SummerSlam was tonight.

The camera cuts backstage to the production truck. RETRIBUTION is in the truck with baseball bats. The masked male and female attackers start destroying parts of the equipment and bullying the production workers. One guy is held against the wall. A masked man yells at him to cut the show off and he finally gives in, pressing the button. RAW goes black and straight to commercial.

- We are back and things are back under control (maybe) as we recap what just happened when the inner sanctum of WWE production was destroyed.

Backstage:

The wrestlers are in the back and Titus O'Neil is holding shop. Drew McIntyre shows up and Titus asks Drew if Ric is okay. Drew says Ric is okay. Drew says he does not know if we will make it to SummerSlam because of Retribution. Drew says he does not like what is going on with Retribution. They can join forces or... Seth Rollins shows up and he applauds Drew's pep talk. Seth says he is the leader of the locker room since he is the messiah. Drew says if they haven't respected you for six years, they won't respect you now. Seth says having a title doesn't make you a leader or a teacher. He taught Dominik how it feels to be a WWE Superstar. Ricochet says that Seth is going to get a receipt and Rey is going to be here. Cedric Alexander says he heard the same thing about Rey being here. Drew asks Seth if he is scared and Drew says he can protect himself and the people around him. He says that Drew couldn't protect Ric Flair last week and he will lose the title on Sunday. Drew tells Seth if he wants to fight him he can and then he pushes Buddy Murphy away.

In the Arena:

MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley make their way to the ring.

MVP says they are here to make a statement. Retribution, wherever you are, the Hurt Business is open for business. We know what is going on. While the rest of the WWE roster is handwringing over where will Retribution strike next, we are calling you out. You want to know what is tough are the three of us.

MVP says he has learned always follow the money. In this case, it is the same thing. Who benefits the most from the actions of Retribution? If you follow that trail, it will take you to catering, where you will find Apollo Crews and his merry band of pranksters, Ricochet, Mustafa Ali, and Cedric Alexander. Crews probably came up with this idea when Apollo was out with an injury thanks to Bobby Lashley. They showed up when he was facing Apollo Crews and it allowed Crews to take HIS title.

Apollo Crews comes out and has something to say.

Crews says he knows how MVP is but to accuse him of being behind RETRIBUTION is pretty low. Crews says MVP is just trying to come up with distractions before their title match at SummerSlam, because MVP knows he can't beat Crews. They go on trading shots on the mic as Crews approaches the ringside area. Crews says if he can beat Shelton tonight, then Shelton and Lashley will be banned from ringside at SummerSlam, and will have to watch the match from catering. Crews says he will show MVP he just can't beat him without any help. MVP accepts and says there won't be any excuses at SummerSlam, just results. Benjamin comes out and tries to attack but it backfires and Crews hits the ring to stand tall and prepare for a fight, staring the others down. We go to commercial.

Truth comes running back down the ramp to ringside but Shelton drops him on the floor, covering him to win the WWE 24/7 Title. MVP takes the mic and challenges Crews to find two partners for a six-man Elimination Tag Team Match later on tonight. Per the stipulation on Crews vs. Benjamin, Lashley and Benjamin will now have to watch the United States Title match at SummerSlam from backstage as they are banned from ringside.

Joe says something is about to come out and it's good. Vega goes to Joe and demands to know what it is. Joe says due to the actions of RETRIBUTION, WWE has recently gone over hundreds of hours of security footage.
