Vince McMahon’s Attorney Issues Statement Following John Laurinaitis’s Dismissal from Janel Grant Lawsuit – The legal team for Vince McMahon has responded publicly following the dismissal of John Laurinaitis as a defendant in the ongoing lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant. In a statement issued Wednesday, McMahon’s attorney, Jessica Rosenberg, reaffirmed McMahon’s denial of any wrongdoing and emphasized that the dismissal does not impact the core facts of the case.
“Today’s dismissal of John Laurinaitis as a defendant doesn’t alter the facts of this case in any way. Vince McMahon never mistreated Janel Grant. No matter how many press releases her team issues, the truth remains unchanged,” Rosenberg said. She also cited a previous public statement from Laurinaitis’s legal counsel: “Mr. Laurinaitis corroborates Mr. McMahon in publicly declaring that Ms. Grant’s allegations of sexual abuse and coercion in her Complaint are completely unfounded.”
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, accuses McMahon of sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and sex trafficking during Grant’s time with WWE. WWE itself remains a defendant, with the suit alleging that the company was negligent in allowing the alleged abuse to take place.
While Rosenberg’s statement points to Laurinaitis supporting McMahon’s innocence, Grant’s legal team told POST Wrestling that Laurinaitis had reached a confidential settlement and will “cooperate and provide evidence” in the case against McMahon and WWE. They called his dismissal a “pivotal next step toward holding McMahon and WWE accountable.” The dismissal was filed with prejudice, meaning Grant cannot refile claims against Laurinaitis.
Previously, Laurinaitis had denied the allegations through his attorney, maintaining that Grant’s claims of sexual abuse and coercion were untrue.
With Laurinaitis now removed from the case, McMahon and WWE remain the primary defendants. Both are expected to respond with motions by June 13 seeking to move the case into private arbitration, citing an NDA allegedly signed by Grant.
The contrasting narratives from both legal teams suggest that the case could become increasingly complex, especially with Laurinaitis reportedly now cooperating with the plaintiff.
