Cope Explains AEW’s Creative Process and Storyline Structure – Adam Copeland has become a key player in All Elite Wrestling since his arrival nearly two years ago. The former WWE Hall of Famer, known to many fans as Edge, has maintained his position at the top of the card and continues to thrive within AEW’s ever-evolving landscape.
In a recent interview with TV Insider, Copeland opened up about how AEW’s creative process differs from other promotions, highlighting the collaborative environment within the company. He also addressed a common misconception regarding how match outcomes are determined in AEW.
“I don’t factor in where I end up,” Copeland stated. “I always say, ‘Where do you need me? You want me to go in this direction? Cool, I’ll start putting together some ideas.’ It’s a collaborative effort, but I really enjoy that. I enjoy piecing together stories.”
Copeland clarified that, despite speculation, AEW’s creative process isn’t entirely driven by the performers themselves when it comes to deciding match outcomes.
“Contrary to popular belief, we don’t come up with the finishes. I always just ask, ‘Where do you need me?’ Point me in whatever direction you need me, and I’ll get to work.”
He also touched on his mindset upon returning to AEW after an injury, emphasizing his willingness to contribute wherever needed.
“On coming back, it felt like, ‘Okay, you want me here because I’m coming back from an injury, I’m nominated for an Emmy and we want to capitalize on that buzz. Cool, let’s do this.’ Then we would try to do a cohesive story with the Death Riders and try to get them some momentum going forward.”
Copeland will be back in action at AEW Dynasty next weekend. He will team with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, collectively known as Rated FTR, to challenge the AEW Trios Champions Death Riders — Wheeler Yuta, PAC, and Claudio Castagnoli.
With AEW Dynasty just around the corner, fans can expect another high-level performance from Copeland, who has proven himself to be a vital part of AEW’s creative and in-ring structure.
