William Regal Returns to NXT at Roadblock – William Regal made a surprise appearance at Tuesday’s WWE NXT Roadblock special, marking only his second appearance on WWE TV since rejoining the company in 2023. His interruption came during a celebration for the new NXT Heritage Cup Champion, Charlie Dempsey, and the No Quarter Catch Crew.
During his appearance, Regal emphasized the significance of the Heritage Cup to him and announced his intention to closely monitor the No Quarter Catch Crew as they defended the trophy under the “Catch clause,” which allows any member of the group to defend the Cup.
In response, Dempsey, who is Regal’s real-life son, expressed his determination to defend the Cup even better than Regal himself could have. This acknowledgment of their family connection adds an intriguing layer to their on-screen dynamic, although it has not yet been fully integrated into NXT storylines.
Regal’s journey back to WWE involved a stint with AEW as the manager of the Blackpool Combat Club and occasional commentator from March 2022 to December 2022. Following his departure from AEW, he rejoined WWE in January 2023 as the Vice President of Global Talent Development, having declined AEW’s contract option for 2023. As part of the agreement with AEW, Regal was prohibited from appearing on WWE TV until 2024.
Regal returned to television as a character on the January 23, 2024 episode of NXT, assuming an authoritative role and appointing Ava as the brand’s new general manager.
As noted a few days ago, recent reports suggest that there are no immediate plans for Regal to return to an on-screen role on WWE programming
