Backstage News on BCC's Exclusion from AEW World Tag Team Title Tournament

Backstage News on BCC’s Exclusion from AEW World Tag Team Title Tournament – All Elite Wrestling recently announced a World Tag Team Title tournament, set to culminate at the upcoming AEW Dynasty pay-per-view on April 21. The tournament was initiated following Sting’s retirement and Darby Allin’s return to singles competition.

Quarter-Final Matchups:

  1. The Young Bucks vs. Private Party
  2. FTR vs. The Infantry
  3. Mike Bennett & Matt Taven vs. Best Friends
  4. Ricky Starks & Big Bill vs. Top Flight

However, some fans have raised questions regarding the absence of Blackpool Combat Club’s Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli from the tournament lineup. This curiosity stems from the fact that BCC emerged victorious over FTR’s Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler at the Revolution pay-per-view last month.

Addressing this issue on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer highlighted the lack of clarity surrounding BCC’s exclusion. Despite inquiries, no concrete reason has been provided for their absence. Speculations suggest that AEW may have opted to omit BCC from the tournament to avoid booking them to win while also avoiding their defeat.

Bryan Alvarez: “And I can’t think of any reason for them not to be in that tournament other than we don’t want to be Jon Moxley, and we’re not gonna be able to beat Jon Moxley.”

Meltzer: “I’ve actually asked about that, and one thing has nothing to do with the other.”

Alvarez: “Why are they not in the tournament?”

Meltzer: “Because they weren’t booked for the tournament….I specifically asked why they weren’t in and there was like no reason. And again, even if they were in the tournament or whatever like that, you could still beat Claudio. I mean, they just didn’t put them in because, whatever reason, they didn’t put them in.”
