Another WWE star is getting a name change, as first reported by WrestleVotes.
WrestleVotes tweeted, “There’s a name change for a debuting superstar tonight on SmackDown that is probably the worst one yet. Like picked from a hat and blindfolded, that’s how they got here type stuff.”
Fightful is reporting that the wrestler getting a new name is Marcel Barthel and his new name will be Ludwig. The sounds like it was inspired by Ludvig Borga, the wrestlers played by Tony Halme in the mid-90s.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Barthel and Gunther would be split up, while Fabian Aichner is expected to stay in NXT for now.
The name change is likely a Vince McMahon call as he oftentimes likes to change wrestler’s names and ignore their past, similar to what was done when Pete Dunne was renamed to Butch.
