As we noted during this week, there’s been recent talk about Imperium’s Gunther and Marcel Barthel to come to the main roster, with the exclusion of Fabian Aichner.
Furthermore, there are conflicting reports on plans for Gunther and Barthel as The Observer reports that the plan was to call them both up, but not as a tag team or a unit, and likely on separate brands.
It seems unlikely that WWE would split Gunther and Barthel up, but as we’ve seen, anything is possible when it comes to WWE bringing NXT Superstars to the main roster.
Speaking of NXT call-ups to the main roster, a new report from Fightful Select notes that LA Knight and Raquel Gonzalez have both been pitched for call-ups to RAW or SmackDown. It was noted that while Gonzalez seems to be expected by most within NXT, Knight’s situation didn’t seem as certain.
One pitch for Knight on the main roster would see him work as a manager due to his highly-acclaimed mic work. There is no word on if this role is favored over Knight being a regular in-ring talent, but it was pitched.
There have been several pitches to bring Gonzalez up to RAW or SmackDown in the past, but they never came to fruition for whatever reason. However, word now is that many expect her to finally be brought up.
Last Saturday’s Stand & Deliver event saw Gunther defeat LA Knight in singles action, while Aichner and Barthel dropped the NXT Tag Team Titles to MSK in a Triple Threat that also involved The Creed Brothers. Barthel and Aichner then took a loss to The Creed Brothers on Tuesday’s show, while Gunther came up short in the main event against NXT Champion Bron Breakker. MSK relinquished those titles today due to Nash Carter’s release, and new champions will be crowned on Tuesday’s show.
There’s still no word on when these NXT Superstars might be called up, but we will keep you updated.
