WWE SmackDown Results (8/27) North Little Rock – AR – Tonight’s WWE Smackdown begins with a look back at the match that was not and the match that ‘kind of was’ for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at SummerSlam.
— We are live from the Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock, AR. Kevin Owens replaces Pat McAfee at the commentary table due to him testing positive to COVID-19.
— Becky Lynch makes her way to the ring to start the show. Becky says the Man is back in Little Rock. She says it is good to be back and to be back on top. Becky says she misses you guys. She says when she had to give up her Raw title a year and a half ago, it was one of the hardest thing she had to do. She felt she was giving up her identity but she has fought back every day to get back to the top. Now she has a new life and a new set of priorities. If you thought I was dangerous before, wait til you see how deadly I will be.
Becky mentions SummerSlam and the crowd starts to boo. Becky says there has been a lot of controversy and people have called what I did underhanded. Becky says she is sorry . . . for absolutely nothing. Becky says it is all about timing. All I needed was an opportunity because if you didn’t think I was planning this every day, you don’t know about my career.
Bianca Belair makes her way to the ring and she is dancing around even though she is going to be face to face with the woman who took her title.
Bianca says she is not here to make excuses because that is not her style. If you think I am okay with what happened at SummerSlam? uh uh. I am the one working too hard and too long for you to come in and erase all that in 26 seconds. You want to talk about timing. I accepted your last minute challenge, so why not you and me tonight for the title.
Zelina Vega’s music plays and she comes out and says that Bianca is reduced to crying for a rematch. Zelina says that Bianca should go to the back of the line. You should let me have that match with Becky.
Carmella comes out.and she needs the two of you to move out of the way because Becky should be facing the Most Beautiful Woman in WWE. They told me one hour before my match that I was Sasha’s replacement. I couldn’t get my hair, nails, or makeup ready.
Liv Morgan comes out and she says she doesn’t understand why these two belong in the title picture because they get beaten week after week after week. Becky, if you are looking for a contender, I am right here.
Carmella says it must be a nice change of pace for you in the ring because you have been in catering for the last two months.
Bianca says you three have lost your damn minds. This is between me and the Man. Let’s give the people the match they want and do it tonight.
Becky says no and leaves the ring.
Bianca suddenly with a forearm to Zelina and Carmella hits Bianca from behind. Liv sends Carmella to the floor. Carmella and Zelina pull Bianca off the apron and then Liv knocks Zelina and Carmella off the apron as we go to a commercial break.
Carmella vs. Zelina Vega vs. Liv Morgan vs. Bianca Belair in an Elimination Match
Carnella and Bianca are in the ring and Carmella with a cross body and Belair rolls through and hits a suplex. Bianca does a curl with Zelina and presses her over her head and sends Zelina face first to the mat. Belair knocks Morgan off the apron when she goes for a springboard moonsault on Vega. Belair gets Vega up for a slam but Carmella grabs Bianca’s hair and holds her for Vega to kick Belair. Carmella with a bronco buster and Carmella and Vega get a near fall.
Morgan with a drop kick to Vega but Carmella sends Morgan into the turnbuckles. Carmella with a figure four head scissors. Vega mises a splash into the corner and Vega with a sunset flip bomb followed by a kick. Carmella rolls up Vega for a near fall.
Vega yells at Carmella for trying to win the match and then they push each other. Bianca clotheslines Vega and Belair sends Carmella to the floor. Belair with KOD to Vega for the three count.
Zelina Vega Eliminated
Belair goes to the floor and she choo choo chooses Mogan to send back into the ring but Carmella sends Belair into the ringside barrier. Morgan with a springboard flatliiner for the three count.
Carmella Eliminated
We go to commercial.
We are back and Morgan with a reverse chin lock. We see footage from the break when Carmella pulled Morgan to the floor and sent her into the ring steps. Carmella gave Bianca a super kick. Morgan with a sunset flip for a near fall. Bianca with a shoulder tackle. Bianca with a drop kick and shoulder in the corner. Morgan with an Irish whip and Bianca goes to the turnbuckles and taunts Morgan. Morgan with a knee and Morgan with a handstand head scissors into a rana. Morgan with a springboard double stomp to the back for a near fall.
Morgan with a drop toe hold to send Belair into the turnbuckles. Morgan misses the springboard double stomp and Belair with a spinebuster for a near fall. Morgan with a kick and Belair blocks a springboard flatliner. Belair goes for a delayed vertical suplex but Morgan with a jumping face buster for a near fall. Morgan is propelled into the turnbuckles and Belair gets Morgan up for a power bomb but drops Morgan on the turnbuckles. Belair with KOD for the three count.
Winner: Bianca Belair
Backstage:
We see Paul Heyman walking in the back and Kayla ambushes Paul outside Roman’s dressing room. Kayla asks Paul where does he stand now that Brock is back. Paul tells Ms. Braxton he stands where he always stands. Right behind and kind of to the side of my Tribal Chief Roman Reigns. Paul says he needs to help the champion prepare for his family celebration. Paul tries to go into Roman’s dressing room but the door is locked…
We go to commercial.
— We are back with a look back at Brock Lesnar’s return at SummerSlam.
Backstage:
Paul Heyman is still outside Roman’s dressing room and Kayla shows up next to Paul. He asks if she has anything better to do. If she has anyone to stalk or harass.
Jimmy and Jey Uso come out and ask Paul if he has been out here the whole time. Jey says that Big Uce isn’t here and he wants to know if Paul knew that Brock would be at SummerSlam. Paul says no and he asks why would he tear down everything that they have worked to build up. It makes no sense. Paul swears on everything that is holy that he didn’t know that Brock was coming. Jimmy wants to know why did Paul send them back to the locker room before the match with Cena. Paul says it was the Tribal Chief who sent them back… Jimmy and Jey go back into the dressing room and leave Paul outside.
We go to commercial.
Chad Gable vs. Cesaro
Cesaro with a European uppercut and Irish whips followed by European uppercuts. Gable gets to the apron when Cesaro sets for the giant swing. Gable drops Cesaro’s arm on the top rope. Gable with an arm drag and a knee drop to the arm for a near fall. Gable with an arm bar. Gable with an arm trapped Northern Lights suplex for a near fall. Gable with a moonsault for a near fall. Gable with a triangle in the ropes and he lets go before the five count. Cesaro with an uppercut and a Frankensteiner. Cesaro with a Giant Swing and Otis attacks Cesaro and the referee calls for the bell.
Winner by DQ: Cesaro
After the match, Otis with a clothesline while Gable hits a German suplex. Otis goes to the turnbuckles and hits a splash.
— Kayla Braxton is outside the building waiting to ambush Roman Reigns’ arrival. A Bentley drives up and Baron Corbin emerges and he has Andrade’s hat. Corbin says he is happy again and he’s now Happy Corbin. He asks if you have been following his social media. He says he is filthy rich and he is happy.
We go to commercial.
In the Arena:
We are back and Happy Corbin makes his way to the ring.
Corbin says he was thinking about filing for bankruptcy after everything he lost. He thought he hit rock bottom, but now he looks incredible. The best part is that he did it all by himself and he is the happiest man in the world.
We see Corbin after the match mentioning that he only had $35. We see Corbin talking about the roll he was on at the casino.
Baron says he was the Mayor of Jackpot City. Corbin says he deserves this. He talks about what he is wearing and the Bentley he drove to the show. He mentions that his wife welcomed him back. Corbin says he wants everyone to call him Happy Corbin because he is the happiest person in the world. There is one thing that could make him happier. He asks Big E to come out.
Big E makes his way to the ring.
Corbin says he appreciates Big E coming out here. Big E says he is very happy for Baron and he is happy that he does not smell any more. Baron says that he knows Big E was angry at him for taking the briefcase. He asks Big E how much to buy the briefcase. Corbin offers $20,000 and Big E says no. Corbin raises the offer to $50,000 and Big E says it ain’t happening. Corbin says Big E will probably lose when he cashes in.
Big E asks if Corbin is talking about people like him.
Corbin says he wants Big E to be happy, like him. Corbin offers Big E $100,000. Big E says it is a lot of bread and the kids need braces. Big E thinks about it and says HELL NO, but he has a myriad of things that Corbin can spend that $100,000 on. He has a half eaten sandwich, a pencil he found outside, and an Arkansas Razorback plushie.
Corbin says he knows it is a big joke to Big E, but he is way too rich and too happy for this. Corbin tells Big E to be miserable and then he can cash in and fail. Then he will regret not taking the $100,000.
Big E tells Baron to hit the bricks or he will slap that smile off Baron’s face.
— We take a look back at Seth Rollins and Edge from SummerSlam.
— Earlier today, Edge says that SummerSlam was pretty satisfying. He defeated a generational talent in Seth Rollins, but i had to go to a dark place to find the most savage version of myself. It affected me. It affected me at home and wherever I went. I did it. This chapter and albatrooss around my neck is gone. I am moving on to what Seth cost me in the first place, the Universal Championship.
Backstage:
Seth Rollins is in the back and he tells Edge he only has one thing he wants to say to him. Congratulations. Seth says he had a week to think about what happened. Some people are calling it match of the year and one of your greatest victories. It was a loss… that taught me a lot about myself. You won my respect and my admiration. I admire your Hall of Fame career and the life you built for yourself. It got me thinking. If I want to fight my way back to the Universal Championship, maybe I need to be a little more like you. Thank you and congratulations.
— Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs make their way to the ring as we go to commercial.
— We go back to the ring and Rick Boogs is ready to jam with his guitar. He introduces himself and says he came to party with the one King of WWE. The music hits and out comes WWE Intercontinental Champion King Shinsuke Nakamura. They head to the ring together as we go back to commercial.
— We are back and Roman Reigns walks in the back at his nice casual pace. He sees Paul Heyman outside his dressing room and he asks Paul what is he doing. Roman asks if he has to open his own door now. Paul apologizes and opens the door. Roman asks Paul if he is going to join him and he does.
Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs vs. Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler
Boogs and Ziggler start things off and Boogs with a take down into a human air guitar and a gutwrench series and a gutwrench suplex. Ziggler with a back elbow and Roode tags in. Boogs is sent into Roode’s boots and Roode with a neck breaker for a near fall.
We have comments from Apollo Crews during the match and he says Nakamura is soiling the title he made important. Crews calls Nakamura an embarrassment.
Meanwhile Ziggler tags in and he kicks and punches Boogs. Roode tags in and they hit a double suplex for a near fall. Boogs knocks Ziggler off the apron and he gives Roode an elbow. Nakamura tags in and he connects with a forearm and a flying boot. Nakamura with a reverse exploder to Ziggler. Nakamura with a sliding German suplex to Roode and he sets for Kinshasa and Roode moves and gets a near fall with a rollup. Roode sends Nakamura to the apron. Nakamura with a kick but Ziggler with a Zig Zag on the floor.
We go to commercial.
We are back and Ziggler wtih a splash followed by a reverse atomic drop from Roode on Nakamura. Roode and Ziggler with a flying boot and side Russian leg sweep combination. Roode tags in and hits a suplex for a near fall. Nakamura misses a round kick and hits a back heel kick. Boogs tags in and so does Ziggler. Boogs with a flying back elbow and an exploder. Boogs with a splash into teh corner and a bulldog for a near fall. Boogs with a kick and he gets Ziggler up for a pump handle move but Roode breaks it up. Boogs with an exploder to Roode and Ziggler with a super kick but Nakamura breaks up the cover.
Roode is sent to the apron and Nakamura knocks Roode off the apron. Ziggler sends Nakamura to the floor. Ziggler with a rollup for a near fall. Boogs with a pump handle power slam for the three count.
Winners: Rick Boogs and Shinsuke Nakamura
Backstage:
Sonya Deville is in the back and Naomi shows up. She says she is excited to be back on Smackdown. She is ready to glow this show up. She asks when is her first match. Sonya says she didn’t know that Naomi was coming to Smackdown and Adam Pearce probably did it behind her back. Sonya says she does not know if Naomi is up for this. Sonya says she will tell Naomi next week, after she has thought about it.
Backstage:
Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio are back and Rey says Dominik has a lot to learn as a tag team but he will let him go on his own. Dominik isn’t sure of what his father is saying. Rey tells Dominik he needs to step back. Rey says that he asked Adam to give Dominik a match and he does not know who his opponent is, but Dominik can win the match.
Dominik Mysterio heads to the ring as we go to commercial.
Dominik Mysterio vs. Sami Zayn
They lock up and Zayn with a clean break. They lock up again and Zayn backs Dominik into the corner and Zayn with punches on the break. Zayn with kicks. Zayn runs Dominik’s face across the top rope. Zayn punches Dominik. Dominik with a body scissors and a back body drop. Zayn falls back into the corner. Zayn with a kick and punches. Zayn with an Irish whip but he runs into an elbow. Dominik goes to the apron to avoid a splash. Dominik with a springboard arm drag and drop kick. Dominik with a head scissors that sends Zayn into the ropes. Dominik goes for the 619 but Sami pulls the ropes and Dominik goes to the floor.
Rey makes his way to the ring to check on the man he said he trusted on his own as we go to commercial.
We ar abck and Zayn chokes Dominik in the ropes while Zayn has some words for Dominik’s father. Dominik with an inside cradle for a near fall. Zayn with a clothesline and he tries for the Blue Thunder Bomb but Dominik blocks it. Zayn with elbows to Dominik and Dominik still blocks the Blue Thunder Bomb and Dominik with elbows. Dominik lands on his feet on a Blue Thunder Bomb and Dominik with an enzuigiri. Dominik with a drop toe hold and a 619. Dominik goes up top and Zayn rolls to the other side of the ring. Zayn with an exploder into the turnbuckles followed by a Helluva Kick for the three count.
Winne: Sami Zayn
After the match, Rey checks on Dominik and Dominik doesn’t want to hear from his father.
— Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, and Paul Heyman are in Gorilla Position and Roman is not in a good mood. Paul hands him the belt and Roman asks why is he doing that. Paul says it is a family celebration. Roman says that Paul is family.
They head to the ring as we go to commercial.
In the Arena:
We are back and Roman Reigns is in the ring with Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, and Paul Heyman.
Roman is handed the mic by Paul.
Roman looks around and then he asks Paul to have the people of North Little Rock acknowledge him. Roman tells Paul to tell them it is their lucky night because they will be able to acknowledge the Usos as well. Roman tells Paul to tell everyone it is time to celebrate the fact that we have CENAnough of John at SummerSlam thanks to Roman Reigns. Cena was beaten by the Universal Champion, Roman Reigns…
FInn Balor’s music plays.
Balor tells Roman he knows that he got screwed out of his match at SummerSlam by John Cena and he will take care of Cena. Edge is talking about the Universal Championship. Brock Lesnar is back. Finn says he was going to come out and challenge Brock to a match at Extreme Rules, but since he doesn’t trust anyone around here, he is not waiting in line. I am challenging you to a match next week on Smackdown.
Balor with a forearm to Reigns and then THe Usos attack Balor.
The Street Profits come to the ring with their music playing and they go after the Usos. Ford with an enzuigiri and Dawkins with a running shoulder tackle. Balor with a drop kick that sends Jimmy into the corner and Balor goes up top and looks at Roman before hitting Coup de Grace.
