Details on Luke Harper's Return, How WWE Kept His Return a Secret

As noted, Luke Harper made his return to WWE last night at Clash of Champions, aiding his (former) partner Erick Rowan in defeating Roman Reigns in a no-DQ match.

According to PWInsider.com, Harper was not listed on WWE’s format sheet for the PPV (which is where they detail all talent who are available for the show) and he was hidden until shortly before the Reigns/Rowan match as nobody backstage saw him.

Harper has been off of TV in over year except for one appearance around WrestleMania in the Worlds Collide tournament – wrestling Dominick Dijakovic in a match which Vince McMahon reportedly hated. Just weeks after that, Harper formally requested his release – both privately and publicly – and according to reports, was basically ignored by Vince McMahon. He had not been seen or used since then and was basically assumed to be on his way out of WWE when his contract expired. Whether that is still true remains to be seen, but Harper is still contractually obligated to WWE and would legally need to perform until his contract expires in the spring of 2020. It was originally set to run out this fall, but WWE froze his deal while he was rehabbing a wrist injury essentially extending his agreement by another six months.

Just a couple of days ago, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE doesn’t want anyone to leave (and join AEW) so that is why Harper is being paid to do nothing. Of course, Meltzer was wrong.
