After months away from AEW, Gabe Kidd made a surprise return on the August 19 episode of Dynamite, officially reuniting The Dogs and restoring the trio to full strength. Kidd’s comeback unfolded during a chaotic post‑match brawl that broke out after Jon Moxley advanced in the AEW Continental Challenge Cup.
The fight began when Clark Connors and David Finlay clashed with Orange Cassidy and Kyle O’Reilly at ringside. Kidd suddenly hit the scene, immediately siding with his longtime partners and turning the tide. His arrival brought out AEW World Trios Champions Hangman Page and Brodido, who stepped in to even the numbers and set the stage for an open Trios title challenge at AEW All In.
Kidd had been absent from AEW since April’s Dynasty event, where The Dogs lost the Trios titles to The Conglomeration. He suffered a shoulder injury during that match, and visa complications kept him out even longer. In his absence, Connors and Finlay shifted into the tag division and even challenged for the AEW World Tag Team titles at Redemption, though they came up short.
Kidd Returns After NJPW Success
While away from AEW, Kidd stayed active in NJPW. He returned to the ring in July and defeated Shota Umino for the IWGP Global Championship at Road to G1 Climax — a match originally planned for AEW Forbidden Door before his injury. He then competed in the G1 tournament, picking up wins over Zack Sabre Jr., Ren Narita, Oskar, Aaron Wolf and Henare.
With Kidd now back in AEW and The Dogs reunited, the trio immediately finds itself in the mix for championship gold again. Their confrontation with Page and Brodido on Dynamite has already set the tone for All In, where the Trios titles will be on the line in an open challenge.
The Dogs are whole again, and Kidd’s return adds another layer of unpredictability to AEW’s growing Trios division.
