Asuka has been absent from WWE programming since May, but a new backstage report suggests the company has not closed the door on her return. WWE is reportedly prepared to bring the former Women’s Champion back whenever she decides that she is ready to compete again.
The situation has created uncertainty around Asuka’s WWE future, especially after some of her recent messages appeared to suggest that she could be moving toward a more permanent absence. However, the latest update indicates that WWE remains interested in having her back.
WrestleVotes stated that WWE wants the Japanese star to return and is simply waiting for her decision.
“I know they want her back. I know this is not a closed-door type of situation. When she’s ready, they’re ready to get her back.”
TC also explained that Asuka could return without much advance notice. He noted that she is currently back in the United States and could contact WWE when she feels prepared to resume her career.
“She’s one of those that can pop up on a moment’s notice.”
The report also stated that Asuka is now working under a part-time arrangement. That could explain why WWE has not provided a clear timetable for her next appearance.
Asuka WWE Return Could Happen Without Warning
Asuka’s most recent match took place against IYO SKY at Backlash in May. There was no injury angle following the match, and reports indicated that her absence was related to personal reasons rather than a physical injury.
Since then, Asuka has reflected on her WWE career and her future through a video message. She spoke about the temporary nature of everything while also making it clear that she remains under contract with WWE.
“Nothing lasts forever. Everything is finite.”
Asuka also suggested that fans should not expect to see her regularly if and when she returns. She left the possibility open for unexpected appearances, saying:
“There’s a chance I might just pop up… when you least expect it.”
Those comments naturally led to questions about whether Asuka was preparing to move away from wrestling altogether. The latest backstage report, however, suggests that WWE still expects the possibility of her returning to the ring.
There is currently no reported date for her comeback, and the company appears willing to let Asuka decide when the time is right. Her part-time status also gives WWE flexibility when planning a potential return.
Asuka has already established herself as one of the most accomplished performers in WWE history, making any surprise appearance significant. If she decides to return, WWE can introduce her back into programming without requiring a lengthy build.
For now, WWE appears to be taking a patient approach and allowing Asuka to determine her own timetable. While fans may have to wait longer to see the Empress of Tomorrow again, the latest report indicates that her WWE story may not be finished.
