IMPORTANT! If wrestling TV ratings seem lower than usual, it may not mean fewer fans are watching. Starting in October 2025, Nielsen has rolled out a new “Big Data + Panel TV” system that changes how ratings are measured — and it’s already affecting live programming, including professional wrestling.

The new model blends Nielsen’s traditional panels with massive data from 45 million households and 75 million devices, including smart TVs and cable boxes from Comcast, Dish, DIRECTV, Roku, and Vizio.

Nielsen CEO Karthik Rao called the change “a landmark moment for TV ratings,” adding that it provides “the most accurate measurement in the history of television.”

Unlike the old panel-based system, which sometimes overstated audiences, especially for wrestling, the new approach tracks every channel change — so brief tune-outs now count as viewer losses. Co-viewing in homes, bars, or gyms also counts less, making total ratings appear lower even if viewership hasn’t declined.
