Jeff Cobb Officially Renamed JC Mateo – Although initially introduced by name during his surprise debut at WWE Backlash, Cobb’s new identity was made official on the May 16 episode of SmackDown. The change came during the opening segment when Solo Sikoa referred to him as “JC.” WWE later uploaded a clip to YouTube that fully confirmed his WWE name as JC Mateo.
The renaming comes shortly after WWE filed a trademark for “JC Mateo” on May 10, the same night Cobb debuted by interfering in the United States Championship match at Backlash, helping Jacob Fatu retain his title against LA Knight.
JC Mateo’s presence was immediately felt again on SmackDown, but not without consequences. LA Knight confronted and attacked Mateo during the same opening segment, getting a measure of revenge after Mateo’s Backlash interference cost him championship gold.
Before arriving in WWE, Cobb wrapped up his commitments with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he held the IWGP World Tag Team Titles and was widely respected for his powerhouse style and athleticism. The decision to rename him is consistent with WWE’s branding approach for newly signed talent.
With JC Mateo now officially part of WWE’s main roster and aligned with Solo Sikoa, his future seems closely tied to The Bloodline’s ongoing storylines—and LA Knight’s pursuit of retribution may only be beginning.
