Kazuchika Okada Vacates NEVER Six-Man Tag Title – At the NJPW Road to New Beginning event on January 24, Kazuchika Okada, teaming with Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tomohiro Ishii, successfully defended their NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championships against TMDK (Shane Haste, Mikey Nicholls & Kosei Fujita).
Following the match, Okada, visibly emotional, thanked the Korakuen crowd and shook hands with everyone, including members of TMDK. He then announced that he would be vacating his share of the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Title.
Okada is set to leave NJPW when his contract expires at the end of January. He is scheduled to have a few more matches in February, including a final bout against Hiroshi Tanahashi on February 11. The vacating of the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Title signifies Okada’s departure from the championship scene in NJPW as he concludes his tenure with the promotion.
Recent reports suggest that Kazuchika Okada is leaning towards joining WWE rather than AEW. Both AEW and WWE have expressed interest in signing the seven-time world champion, and initially, there were indications that AEW had made a strong offer. However, the latest reports point towards Okada being WWE-bound.
