Backstage News on Matt Riddle-NJPW Status – Matt Riddle has stayed busy since departing from WWE last year by working for various promotions, including MLW, NJPW, and independent promotions.
Riddle won the NJPW World TV Title by defeating Hiroshi Tanahashi in February. The finish saw Riddle hit the BroDerek for the victory. This marked his first reign as NJPW World TV Champion, ending Tanashi’s reign at 50 days.
At Friday’s NJPW Windy Riot event, Riddle dropped the title to Zack Sabre Jr when Riddled was pinned. Riddle left the ring smiling despite the loss, leading to speculation that he may have finished up with the promotion.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that despite the speculation, Riddle still has NJPW dates lined up.
“Also, real quick. There were people who thought that because Matt Riddle lost the TV Title to Zack Sabre last night, that was it for Matt Riddle. And at least as of right now, Matt Riddle still has bookings in New Japan. They just made the decision to take the title from him,” Meltzer stated.
