6/9 WWE SmackDown Results – We begin with a look back at last week’s SmackDown, with Roman Reigns getting another title belt and the betrayal of his cousin Jimmy.
We are live from the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, as Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa make their way to the ring.
Before Paul can tell us who he is, the music for The Usos play and Jey makes his way to the ring.
Jey says he let a lot of things slide but stabbing your big brother in the back is not what you do. Jey says he does not know if he forgives Solo or not. He tells Paul to say what he has to say.
Paul says Jey has this all right. It is not Solo’s fault, it is not his fault, it is not Roman’s fault, it is not your fault. It is all Jimmy’s fault. Jimmy made up his own mind and not just for himself. Jimmy made up his mind for you.
Paul tells Solo it is okay and he tells him to take a step back.
Paul says he is no physical threat. He is opening his heart for Jey and standing so close to Jey. Did Jimmy ask you about the super kick in advance? No, Jimmy pulled the trigger for himself. He is the older brother, he was the first born. No disrespect to Jimmy, but he always resented you. Paul says Roman wants to groom the Right Hand Man to be the next Tribal Chief. That is your future and your destiny. That is your fate and who you are going to be. It was never going to be Jimmy and he has resented you since day one.
They are booing because they don’t know the truth. I have arranged a match that sets your trajectory to become the next Tribal Chief. You bring gold to the Bloodline. It is not tag team gold. There is no more tag team in WWE known as The Usos.
Heyman says Jey will bring gold back to The Bloodline tonight when he faces WWE United States Champion Austin Theory. Heyman goes on hyping Jey up as the next Tribal Chief, but says first he needs his answer. Jey doesn’t give it but says he will take the title shot tonight. Heyman offers his hand for a shake now. Fans chant “Uso!” and then “no!” as Jey looks on. Jey drops the mic and says he will get back to Heyman on that. Jey exits the ring as Solo and Heyman look on.
– Santos Escobar makes his way to the ring accompanied by Rey Mysterio. He will face Mustafa Ali in a Money In the Bank Qualifier after a commercial.
Money In the Bank Qualifier: Santos Escobar vs. Mustafa Ali
We are back and ready for the match, but LA Knight comes out to join the commentary team.
Santos and Ali talk about how they are going to win. Santos with a punch and Ali with a chop. Santos with a chop. Santos with a forearm and a flying forearm. Ali flips over Santos in the corner and hits a head scissors take down that sends Santos to the floor. Santos pulls Ali to the floor. Santos with a chop and Ali chops back. They go back and forth with forearms. Santos tries to Irish whip Ali into the ring steps but Ali leaps onto the steps. Santos gets on the apron and connects with a kick to the head. Ali with a knee and Santos pushes Ali into the ring post. Santos with a kick and a rana off the ring steps. Santos sends Ali back into the ring and Santos gets a near fall. Ali goes to the floor and Santos with a suicide dive.
Santos returns to the ring and then he goes up top while the referee makes her count. Santos with a cross body off the turnbuckles.
We go to commercial.
We are back and both men are on the turnbuckles. Ali lands on his feet off the turnbuckles to the floor. Santos comes off the turnbuckles and Ali with a drop kick. Ali goes up top and sets for a 450 splash but Santos moves and Ali rolls through. Santos sends Ali into the turnbuckles and then hits a poisonrana for a near fall. Santos with a running double knee strike in the corner and he gets Ali on his shoulders. Ali escapes and gets a near fall with an O’Connor Roll. Ali with a tornado DDT for a near fall. Ali pulls himself up to the turnbuckles. Santos with a kick to stop Ali and Santos climbs the turnbuckles for a Super Phantom Drivver but Ali with elbows.
Santos hits the Super Phantom Driver for the three count.
Winner: Santos Escobar
After the match, Rey signals for Cruz, Joaquin, and Zelina to come out to celebrate.
Backstage:
Jey is in the back and Sami Zayn is there. Sami says it is a big night for Jey. Sami says he wanted to tell Jey something. In the time they were together, they were some of the best times of his life. He knows they were the best time of Jey’s life. Sami talks about all of the good things they did together. That couldn’t happen because of one person, the Tribal Chief. That is when the Paul Heyman voice gets in his head and the paranoia happens. Sami says he tried to do everything for the Bloodline until Roman tested him against his brother. Now Roman is doing that to you. Sami says he hopes Jey wins tonight so the Bloodline sees that they need Jey more than Jey needs them. Sami tells Jey to remember the consequences of what happens if you make that choice. No more Jimmy and Jey and no more Usos.
Jey walks away as we go to commercial.
In the Arena:
We are back and Kayla Braxton is in the ring and she brings out the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn.
Before they can speak, the WWE Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey interrupt and come out.
Shayna wants to know if Alba and Isla want to calm themselves the women’s tag team champions. How much do you know about the history of those titles? Shayna says she is the reason those titles were created. Those Shayna Baszler Commemorative Tag Titles are hers.
Ronda says they have been running through this division so fast they are going to be hungry soon. This division isn’t big enough for the two of them. They want their titles too.
Isla says you want to face them in a unification match.
Alba says they accept and they attack Shayna and Ronda. Shayna sends Isla to the floor while Ronda holds Alba. Dawn stops Shayna from kicking Fyre. Alba and Isla send Ronda to the floor. Alba with a gourdbuster to Shayna and Isla with a knee to the head.
– Michael Cole mentions the passing of the Iron Sheik and they go to a video package.
– Bayley vs. Mia Yim is next, but first… We go to commercial.
Money In the Bank Qualifier: Bayley vs. Mia Yim
Bayley punches and kicks Mia and they go to the floor. Bayley sends Mia into the announce table and then Bayley has some words for AJ. Bayley turns around into a suicide dive. Mia with a La Magistral for a near fall. Mia with another near fall. Mia with forearms for a near fall. Mia with chops and punches. Bayley with an Irish whip and Mia floats over and hits a head scissors take down. Bayley sends Mia to the apron but Mia with a tornado DDT for a near fall. Mia with kicks to the head and Bayley goes to the apron. Bayley claims she is injured when the referee checks but Bayley was faking. Mia punches Bayley when she tries to sneak attack Mia.
Bayley grabs MIa by the hair and sends her into the turnbuckles. Bayley with a Rose Plant for the three count.
Winner: Bayley
After the match, Scarlett shows up and sprays red dust in AJ’s face. Kross with a Kross Jacket from the front row.
Backstage:
Bianca Belair is with Adam Pearce and she says she wants a match against Asuka. Adam mentions that he has to give Asuka her new belt and Bianca says she will win it from her. Adam asks Bianca not to attack Asuka. Bianca asks Adam if he wants her to do nothing. Adam says that Bianca is in line for a rematch so she tells Bianca not to do anything tonight. Bianca says if she is getting a rematch, she won’t attack Asuka tonight.
We go to commercial.
– We see AJ in the back being held back by Luke and Karl. Mia says they will get Kross and Scarlett.
In the Arena:
Adam Pearce is in the ring and he brings out Raw Women’s Champion Asuka for a belt transfer ceremony.
Adam says it is his pleasure to present Asuka with the new WWE Women’s Championship.
The belt is put on Asuka but Charlotte Flair’s music plays and she makes her way to the ring.
Adam wants to know what is Charlotte doing. He says he thinks he knows what she is trying to do. Adam tells Charlotte she needs to get in line. Charlotte says she does not wait in line. She says she made the line and she woooos. Charlotte says hello to Asuka and she says no one respects Asuka more than her and she wants that title. She challenges Asuka for the title.
Asuka responds in Japanese and she says she accepts. Charlotte says when the match is made official, you can put that belt around her waist. Asuka tries to spray Charlotte with mist and Charlotte sends Asuka into the podium.
Backstage:
Jey is in the locker room and Paul shows up and he says that Jey got him. That was a cliffhanger and it makes for good television. He says he will need Jey’s passport and suit measurements. Paul says Jey will be flying to London. Next week, they are going to have a triple celebration. Roman will be on Smackdown. The new United States Champion will be a celebration. There will be a public acknowledgement that Jey will be groomed as the next Tribal Chief. Jey says he does not know why Paul is so happy because if Jey is in the Bloodline, Paul is out.
– Butch vs. Baron Corbin is next, after another commercial.
– We are back and Adam Pearce is on the phone and suggests that Charlotte face Asuka on Smackdown in London. Bianca Belair is not happy and Adam says he will figure it out.
Men’s Money In the Bank Qualifier: Butch vs. Baron Corbin
Trick Williams and NXT Men’s Champion Carmelo Hayes are in the crowd.
Baron tells Carmelo and Trick he hopes they are enjoying the show because he is going to beat Butch and then win Money in the Bank again. Baron asks Hayes if he saw what he did to Hayes’ boy on Tuesday. He says he does not want to drop Hayes again.
Butch with a drop kick and a kick in the corner. Butch with another kick in the corner followed by a tornado DDT for a near fall. Corbin slams Butch off the turnbuckles and then he punches Butch. Butch with an enzuigiri and he sends Corbin to the apron. Butch works on the hand but Corbin with elbows. Butch pulls at the fingers. Corbin punches Butch and asks for Hayes’ thoughts on his performance. Butch with a rollup for the three count.
Winner: Butch
After the match, Corbin goes over to Trick and Hayes. The referee tries to control things and Corbin punches Trick. Hayes punches Corbin and they are separated.
– We go to a video package for Bobby Lashley.
We go to commercial.
Backstage:
We are back and Butch is congratulated on his win and he says he is looking forward to winning Money in the Bank. Baron Corbin shows up and says that wasn’t fair because of Carmelo Hayes. Cameron Grimes comes up and punches Corbin.
Money In the Bank Qualifier: IYO SKY vs. Shotzi
Bayley distracts Shotzi and Iyo gets a near fall. Shotzi with a knee and a suplex into the corner. Iyo goes to the turnbuckles and connects with a leg drop. Iyo with a wrist lock and elbows. Iyo goes to the turnbuckles and leaps to the apron to drop the arm on the top rope. Iyo misses a back senton and then Shotzi with kicks and a belly-to-back suplex. Shotzi with a running back senton into the corner. Shotzi with a suicide dive onto Iyo and she sends Iyo into the ring. Shotzi goes up top and Bayley gets on the apron to distract Shotzi. Iyo with a Shotei and she goes for a superplex but Shozti with a gourdbuster. Iyo distracts the referee and Bayley knocks Shotzi off the turnbuckles. Iyo with a moonsault for the three count.
Winner: Iyo Sky
Backstage:
We go to Kayla Braxton in the back and she is with US Champion Austin Theory. Austin says he was the last to find out about his match. How disrespectful is that to the champ? Theory says he does not make excuses. He had zero time to prepare but all he gets are victories. Jey will be sent to the Bloodline as a failure. He will beat Jey like he beat John Cena. Theory suggests that if Paul is looking for a new client, he should contact Theory.
We go to commercial.
Backstage:
We are back and Sami is pacing in the locker room. Kevin shows up and Sami says we will see what happens with Jey. Pretty Deadly show up when the tag titles were mentioned. Elton discusses making an effort to change up their look. Ridge and Sheamus suggest they should get a title match. Luke and Karl show up and they say they would love a fight. The LWO and Street Profits show up.
Kevin says everyone is too close to him and he says he cannot take this. Sami tells Kevin to watch his blood pressure. Adam says if you want the tag titles there will be a gauntlet and the winner faces Kevin and Sami. Kevin wants everyone to leave them alone.
– We take a look at Grayson Waller. Waller says he will never be untruthful. There is no one better in the ring than him. The entire locker room knows that he is the future. He says he is seen as the bad guy. He is not evil, he is inevitable. They paint him as the villain and he signs the artwork.
Next week, Waller will have Charlotte Flair as his guest.
We go to commercial.
– We are back and we are told that in two weeks, all of the Women’s Tag titles will be unified. Next week, AJ Styles and Mia Yim will face Karrion Kross and Scarlett. We will have a tag team gauntlet. In three weeks, Charlotte Flair faces Asuka for the Women’s Title.
Jey Uso vs. Austin Theory for the United States Championship
They lock up and Theory with a side head lock. Theory with a shoulder tackle but Jey with a forearm. Jey clotheslines Theory over the top rope to the floor. Jey sends Theory over the announce table.
We go to commercial.
We are back and Theory with a reverse chin lock. Jey with a punch and Theory punches back. They go back and forth. Jey with a belly-to-back suplex set up into a neck breaker for a near fall. Jey is sent into the turnbuckles with a drop toe hold and then Theory hits a slingshot rolling drop kick for a near fall. Theory with a forearm to the lower back and Theory gets Jey up for Three Seconds Around the World for a near fall. Theory sets for A Town Down but Jey escapes and hits an uppercut. Theory with a kick and Jey with an enzuigiri. Theory kicks Jey and Jey kicks Theory and he falls into the referee.
Jey with a frog splash but the referee is down on the floor so there can be no count.
Elton Brand and Kit Wilson with forearms to Jey.
Jimmy makes his way to the ring and he super kicks Elton and Kit. Solo with a forearm to Jimmy. Solo sets for the Samoan spike but Jey stops Solo. Jimmy accidentally super kicks Jey. Jimmy with a pescado onto Solo. Theory gets the three count.
Winner: Austin Theory
After the match, Theory stands tall with the title as the music hits and we go to replays. Theory is gone now but we see The Usos trying to recover in the ring. Solo looks on from the ramp and Paul Heyman is standing right behind him. Jimmy walks over to Jey, checks on him and then helps him to his feet. “Uso!” chants start up in the crowd now. Jey shoves Jimmy away. Jimmy says he was just trying to help Jey. Jey exits the ring and stops at Solo and Heyman. Heyman says he’s sorry it had to be like this. Jey looks at Solo and Heyman, then back at Jimmy in the ring. Jey waves them all off, then walks to the back. Heyman tells his phone to call Roman Reigns.
The announcers hype next week’s show, where Reigns will be, then we see Heyman and Solo staring at Jimmy. Jimmy just looks down while leaning on the ropes as SmackDown goes off the air.
