The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles and the NXT Women’s Tag Titles will be unified in two weeks.
On tonight’s SmackDown, Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre went out to the ring but were interrupted by Women’s Tag Team Champions Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey. Rousey said that the division is not big enough for both teams and she wanted to unify both sets of titles.
The challenge was answered and then there was a fight with Fyre and Dawn standing tall.
As noted earlier, a merger of the NXT and main roster Women’s Tag Team Titles would likely mean that we would see a main roster tag team appearing on NXT more often. The idea to bring in more main roster stars to NXT is a strategy to strengthen the brand. Nick Khan has said publicly that NXT can be its own standalone brand on the level of RAW and SmackDown.
Rousey and Baszler won the titles on the May 29 episode of WWE RAW. Fyre and Dawn brought the NXT titles with them when they were selected by SmackDown in the 2023 WWE Draft.
