Tony Khan Jokes About WWE MITB Move – Tony Khan shared some interesting nuggets of news in a message posted on Twitter this afternoon.
The AEW President recapped his Thursday where he had dinner with his UFC President Dana White as well as his father. He broke the news to White about WWE’s decision to move the July 2nd Money in the Bank event from Allegiant Stadium to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada due to lower than expected ticket sales.
Money in the Bank will face competition as UFC 276 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena on the same night although WWE’s show should be over before the UFC’s main event that night.
In a follow-up tweet, Khan took a shot at WWE by calling it a “genius move trying to take on Dana and the UFC in Vegas during International Fight Week.” In addition, he noted that he had a fulfilling meeting with the leadership of Warner Bros. Discovery, a good sign regarding their upcoming TV deal.
WWE having to move the show has to be embarrassing for Vince McMahon because he’s friends with White and perception-wise, it makes AEW look good considering All Elite Wrestling will draw more fans for Double Or Nothing at the T-Mobile Arena compared to WWE running a smaller venue in the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
As previously reported, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar were originally advertised for Money in the Bank. However, they’ve been pulled from the promotional material for the show and plans for them are said to be up in the air.
