WWE Smackdown Results – May 14, 2021 – The WrestleMania Backlash go-home edition of WWE SmackDown on FOX opens up with the usual intro video. We’re live from the WWE ThunderDome at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida as Michael Cole welcomes us. He’s joined at ringside by Pat McAfee. We go right to the ring.

– We’re live in the ring with Jey Uso as fans start booing him when the music stops. Jey says his brother Jimmy Uso disrespected the head of the table last week, their cousin WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, so this week he leaves them no choice but to handle some family business. Jey then introduces Reigns, calling him the man who will handle Cesaro at WrestleMania Backlash on Sunday. The boos get louder as Reigns makes his entrance with Paul Heyman.

We go to a video package recapping what happened last week between The Usos and Reigns.

Paul takes the belt back from Roman and then Paul hands Roman the microphone.

Roman says we clearly have some problems and that being your brother. Roman says he will get to him in a minute. Roman says he will address Cesaro first. Roman says he likes Cesaro, like a lot of the boys in the back, he respects him. He is a top tier talent. Roman says Cesaro is one of the best wrestlers in the world. Roman says he is so much more than a wrestler. Roman says he is the tribal chief, the head of the table, and so much more.

Roman says that Cesaro could not fulfill all of those roles. Does WWE want Cesaro in his place? Does Smackdown want that? Does Fox want that? Let’s look at the facts and the resume. How many World Championship matches has Cesaro had? Paul tells Roman zero and he says rightfully so and Roman agrees. Roman asks Paul how many title matches has he had. Paul says his people are good with numbers and he tells Roman 39.

Roman wants to move on to Jimmy. Roman says it was simple. He got to see how it works… Jimmy’s music interrupts.

Jimmy says he is out here so let’s rap. All he can hear is the tribal chief jaw-jacking while his brother acts like your bitch. Jimmy asks Jey if he likes the shirt and he has one for Jey when he is ready. Jimmy says he doesn’t know if Roman will make it past Cesaro on Sunday.

Jey says that is their cousin, the head of the table. He wants Jimmy to show respect to the family. Jimmy says he is all about the family. Roman asks if Jimmy is all about family so he is all about Roman because of what Roman did for the family.Jimmy says that Roman might be part of the family but he is not all of it.

Roman wants to back track and he asks Jimmy if he doesn’t think that Roman can beat Cesaro. Jimmy says he isn’t trying to make this a thing but if you are asking, no he doesn’t think Roman can beat Cesaro. Roman asks Jimmy if he can beat Cesaro and fill his shoes.

Jimmy says together him and Jey can. Jey asks what if they win the tag titles and you lose the Universal Title, they become the head of the table. Roman says that is not what happens. Roman says he is who he is and you are who you are. Roman says he is the tribal chief, a five time Wrestlemania Main Eventer. I put food on the table. I handle responsibilities that you cannot.

Roman says Jimmy thinks he can do what he does. You think you can be the man around here. Roman tells Jimmy to do it and do what he does. Represent like he represents. PUt the Universal title on the line against Cesaro tonight. Smackdown is yours now. Show that you can defend the title against Cesaro. Show us that you can beat him. Can you beat Cesaro?

Jimmy tells Cesaro that he has been out for a year and he is ready to lock it down and he makes a challenge for Cesaro. He wants to know what is Cesaro’s response and then he asks Roman if that is good enough. Cesaro comes out and he accepts the challenge. Cesaro tells Roman he will beat Roman’s cousin Jimmy tonight and he will beat Roman on Sunday for the Universal Championship.

We take a look back at what happened last week when Natalya and Tamina stuck their nose in the tag champs’ business.

We see Tamina and Natalya in the back as we go to commercial.

Natalya and Tamina vs. Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

Back from the break and out come WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler with Reginald. Natalya and Tamina Snuka are out next as Greg Hamilton does the introductions.

Jax starts off by going to work on Snuka in the corner, beating her down. Jax tosses Snuka across the ring to her corner and in comes Baszler. Snuka fights out of the corner and knocks Baszler into the opposite corner. Natalya tags in as Snuka drops Baszler with a headbutt. Natalya with a basement dropkick to Baszler for a 2 count.

Snuka tags back in for the double team, dropping Baszler with a clothesline. Natalya tags in for more double teaming, sending Baszler into a big Samoan Drop from Snuka. Natalya covers for 2 but Reginald gets on the apron for a distraction. The referee ejects him to the back.

Jax and Snuka start brawling at ringside now. Jax sends Snuka into the barrier with a big Samoan Drop. Baszler drops Natalya in the ring with a knee to the face for a close 2 count. We go to commercial with Natalya and Snuka trying to recover.

Back from the break and Natalya gets double teamed. Jax drops an elbow for a 2 count as we see Snuka still down on the outside. Jax continues dominating Natalya now. Baszler tags in for another pin attempt. Baszler softens up Natalya’s elbow now as fans boo. Jax tags back in for another big double team. Snuka runs in but Baszler stops her. Jax covers Natalya but Snuka slams Baszler on top of her to break the pin up. Snuka waits for the tag now as Natalya crawls.

Jax also crawls and in comes Baszler with Snuka. They go at it and Baszler goes for the Kirifuda Clutch but Snuka gets out and levels her with a big crossbody. Snuka yells out and keeps fighting. Baszler grabs a kick and twists Snuka’s ankle around. Snuka kicks her away with the other foot for a 2 count. Snuka drops a knee and goes to the top. Baszler cuts her off with a kick to the head. Jax tags back in and climbs up for a superplex to Snuka. Tamina resists and fights back, headbutting Jax to the mat. Baszler attacks from the apron but Natalya pulls her to the floor and hits a big German suplex to the barrier.

Natalya helps Snuka from the apron now but Jax pulls her in and hits a Samoan Drop. Snuka follows up with the Superfly Splash from the top, nailing Jax for the pin to win the titles.

Winners and New WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions: Natalya and Tamina Snuka

After the match, Natalya and Tamina celebrate as the music hits. We go to replays. Kayla Braxton is in the ring with an emotional Natalya and Snuka now. Natalya says this was for anyone who felt like their dream passed them by. It’s never too late to fight for your dreams and she is so proud of Tamina. Snuka thanks Natalya and everyone else. The fireworks go off around the ThunderDome as Natalya and Tamina raise the titles in the air.

— Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez walk in the back as we go to commercial.

— We are back and Jimmy Uso versus Cesaro is official for tonight.

— Paul Heyman walks in the back and Kayla ambushes and freaks out Paul. Kayla asks Paul the question that Jimmy asked. Paul says he is sick of hypotheticals. He does not know if Jimmy can beat Cesaro tonight, but he knows that Roman can and will beat Cesaro on Sunday.

In the Arena:

Commander Azeez is standing on a giant box while Apollo Crews announces that this will be a special presentation. The swarm of gnats coming after him since he became the Intercontinental Champion, but every time, his Commander Azeez has swatted them away. With this man, he has restored glory to the Intercontinental Championship and he has brought pride for his home country of Nigeria. Crews says he may be the Intercontinental Champion for Life. Crews tells Azeez for his act of loyalty, he gives him the most distinguished medal, the Nigerian Medal of Honor.

Crews gives him the medal and Azeez gleams.

Big E is in the back on the TitanTron and he calls this ceremony a sham. Big E tells Crews not to get too comfortable with his Intercontinental Title. Crews will still have to FEEL HIS POWER.

Sami Zayn comes out and says that is typcial Big E to make a mockery and joke about everything. Sami says he enjoys a good award ceremony.

Crews says that Zayn is disrespecting him and Azeez.

Sami says that Crews has his Intercontinental Title and Crews should give him his chance to get his title back.

Kevin Owens’ music plays and Owens chases Zayn into the ring and Crews and Azeez attack Owens. Crews with punches while Azeez holds him.

Big E goes after Azeez and Azeez misses the Nigerian Nail and Big E sends Azeez over the top rope. Owens with a super kick to Big E and Crews. Zayn runs into a boot and Owens with a stunner. Big E with a Big Ending to Owens and then Azeez pulls Crews out of the ring to safety (until we get the inevitable Fatal Four Way Match on Sunday).

— Michael Cole reminds us about the match that was not between Dolph Ziggler and Rey Mysteiro last week when Rey’s large adult child Dominik took his place in the match because Dolph insulted Dominik’s manhood.

— Rey Mysterio makes his way to the ring with his son Dominik as we go to commercial.

Rey Mysterio vs. Dolph Ziggler

They lock up and Dolph with a clean break. They lock up again and Rey with a waist lock. Dolph gets to the ropes and Rey with a break. Dolph with a waist lock and a side head lock. Dolph with a shoulder tackle. They lock up and Dolph with a side head lock and take down. Dolph with a shoulder tackle and side head lock. Dolph with a forearm across the bridge of the nose. Rey sends Dolph through the ropes to the floor and Rey with a drop kick through the ropes. Rey with a sliding splash off the apron as we go to commercial.

We are back and Dolph punches Rey. Rey with punches after blocking a punch from Dolph. Rey misses a springboard cross body when Dolph moves. Dolph rakes the eyes. Dolph with a reverse exploder for a near fall. Dolph with a reverse chin lock and arm bar. Rey with an elbow and punches to the leg. Rey with a forearm to the back but Dolph with a back elbow and Dolph gets a near fall. Dolph with a bow and arrow and Rey gets to the ropes to force a break. Rey gets his boots up when Dolph charges into teh corner. Rey with a tornado DDT and both men are down.

Rey misses a splash into the corner but Rey goes to the apron and he connects with a forearm. Rey goes up top and Dolph punches Rey. Dolph goes for a superplex and Rey blocks it. Rey with a head butt that sends Dolph to the mat and Rey with a seated splash. Dolph with a sunset flip but Dolph knows better than to try to give Rey a sunset flip. Rey rolls through and kicks Dolph. Rey drop kicks Dolph into the ropes but Rey misses the 619 when Dolph moves. Dolph with a Fameasser for a near fall.

Rey drop kicks Dolph in the knee and Dolph falls into the ropes. Rey tries for a 619 but Dolph with a super kick but Rey grabs the rope to stop the count. Dolph with a slam and Dolph yells at the referee. Rey with an inside cradle to counter a slam and Rey gets the three count.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

After the match, Robert Roode goes after Rey but Dominik Mysterio stops Roode.

Backstage:

Megan Morant is in the back and she is with Cesaro. Megan asks Cesaro about facing Jimmy Uso tonight and his plans for each match. Cesaro says it means the world to compete for the Universal Title and he has dreamt about it for a long time. People thought he was crazy to want to come to the US. He has had a voice inside telling him I think I can when people doubted me. I am not like Roman Reigns. I was not bred for this business and I do not ask people to acknlowedge me. Jimmy Uso has to know if he wants to be known as Roman’s cousin like his brother. Cesaro says he knows that he can beat Roman Reigns so the WWE Universe can acknowledge him as Universal Champion.

— Smackdown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair makes her way to the ring and she has something to say. Back to commercial.

Backstage:

We are back and Kayla Braxton is with the Mysterios. Rey says they are so close to the titles they can feel it. He is looking forward to making history with his son. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode stop by and Dolph says that Dominik doesn’t belong back here. Roode says Rey got lucky tonight. Dominik says Dolph and Robert can call him whatever name they want but on Sunday they will call him champ.

In the Arena:

We go back to the ring and Michael Cole says he cannot believe it has been four weeks since Bianca won the Smackdown Women’s Title. He brings up Bianca’s first title defense against a woman who held the title for 380 days, Bayley. Bianca says she is the BEST and that is not up for debate. Bianca asks where is Bayley since she brings up doubters.

We take a look back at what happened last week with Bayley’s comments about Bianca and their interaction.

Bayley appears on the TitanTron. Bianca asks Bayley if she likes her hair and she says she wants to show Bayley her braid. Bayley says she is appearing via satellite. Bayley says there is no way she is getting in the same ring as Bianca after Bianca attacked her last week. She won’t get into the same ring as Bianca until their match on Sunday. Bianca says it will be the ROUGHEST, TOUGHEST, and QUICKEST victory yet. Bayley has fun laughing at Bianca’s comments.

Bianca says she didn’t want to have to stoop to Bayley’s level but she is going to hurt her feeling. Bianca says Bayley is mad because you were busy getting thrown down the ramp by the Bellas at Wrestlemania while Bianca won the Smackdown Women’s Championship. Bayley tells Bianca when she sees her swinging her stupid pony tail and wearing her sequins, she is looking at her past. This fairy tale run of your will not end well and she will make sure it ends for good on Sunday.

— Baron Corbin is in the back and he is getting ready for his match.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. King Corbin

We go back to the ring and out comes Shinsuke Nakamura, who is upset about how King Baron Corbin pinned him last week. We see a pre-recorded video from Nakamura, who says Corbin is the King of Suckness while he is the King of Style. Nakamura says tonight only one King will survive. We go back to commercial as Nakamura wraps his entrance.

They lock up and Corbin with a knee to the midsection. Corbin goes for a suplex but Nakamura with a knee to get back to his feet. Nakamura with a kick to the head and Nakamura with boots in the corner. Nakamura is sent into the turnbuckles and Corbin with a punch. Corbin chokes Nakamura in the ropes. Nakamura with punches and Corbin with a knee to the midsection. Corbin with elbows to the chest and he gets a near fall with a rollup. Nakamura with a flying boot to the chest.

Nakamura with kicks followed by an enzuigiri. Corbin with an Irish whip and he slides around the post but Corbin misses a clothesline and Nakamura with a take down into a cross arm breaker and a triangle. Corbin with a power bomb and he gets the three count while Nakamura holds on to the triangle.

Winner: Baron Corbin

After the match, Corbin stands tall as his music starts. He grabs his crown and puts it on to more boos. Nakamura turns Corbin around and drops him with a roundhouse kick. Nakamura then levels Corbin again with a Kinshasa as fans cheer him on. Nakamura’s music starts up as he taunts Corbin and keeps him down. Nakamura grabs Corbin’s crown, treats it like something really special, and then places it on his own head. Nakamura celebrates in the crown now as fans cheer him on.

Backstage:

Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce are in their office and then Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez wants to know what they will do. Adam talks about figuring out what to do with his opponent. Sonya says that maybe Adam will have him face everyone like he did with Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania. Adam likes that and says it will be a Fatal Four Way next Friday.

— Jimmy Uso walks in the back as we go to commercial.

— We are back and Nakamura is still infatuated with Baron Corbin’s crown in the locker room.

— We go to Aleister Black.

He talks about trial by fire. It can cleanse or consume you. Father spoke about the cruelties of life. Father taught him The Lesson. This is what Father taught me. I was wronged. I am a cruel man because you have deemed it so. I was cut from steel while you were made from dirt because I was chosen. I saw greatness and I chose it while you chose mediocrity. It is easier to take a seat and watch life than take a stand against it. I could help you and I could teach you this lesson, but I won’t. You are not a participant. You are a spectator.

Jimmy Uso is asked by Kayla Braxton about what is going through his head in his first match back. JImmy says he thought his first match back would have been with his brother Jey. Jimmy says he saw Jey do all the work for Jey. Jimmy says that Jey doesn’t need Roman. Jimmy says they will be cool as long as Roman stays out of it. What is wrong with them being Tag Champs while Uce is the Universal Champion.

Jimmy Uso vs. Cesaro

We go back to the ring and out comes Jimmy Uso for tonight’s main event. The announcers hype Cesaro vs. WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns for WrestleMania Backlash, plus the rest of the card.

They lock up and Jimmy with a wrist lock. Cesaro with a drop kick. They lock up and Jimmy with a side head lock and Cesaro with a shoulder tackle. Cesaro catches Jimmy on a leap frog and hits a power slam for a near fall. Ceasro with an Irish whip and Jimmy starts to limp but it was a ruse to get Cesaro’s defenses down. Jimmy with a super kick and he gets a near fall. Jimmy with a reverse chin lock. Jimmy with a forearm to the back of the head and Cesaro blocks a suplex attempt.

Cesaro with a dead lift suplex. Jimmy with an enzuigiri for a near fall. Jimmy misses a running hip into the corner and Cesaro with a rollup for a near fall. Cesaro with a European uppercut and Irish whip but he runs into the ring post shoulder first. Jimmy clotheslines Cesaro over the top rope to the floor. Jimmy with a suicide dive and Jimmy holds his knee as we go to commercial.

We are back and Cesaro with European uppercuts and punches followed by a clothesline for a near fall. Cesaro sets for a Gotch Style Neutralizer and Jimmy with a back body drop and Cesaro lands on his feet. Cesaro goes for a springboard European uppercut and Jimmy with a super kick for a near fall. Jimmy gets another near fall. Jimmy goes up top but Cesaro stops him. Cesaro with a superplex. Jimmy rolls to the apron and then to the floor. Cesaro waits on the apron and he hits a running senton onto Jimmy. Cesaro with a running European uppercut against the ringside barrier. Roman attacks Cesaro from behind and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner by DQ: Cesaro

After the bell, Jimmy starts yelling at Reigns from the ring, about how he had the match under control. Jimmy storms off and Reigns follows. They argue on the ramp as Jey Uso watches from the ring. Jimmy says Reigns thinks it’s always about himself but now it’s not. Cesaro attacks Jey in the ring and beats him up but Reigns makes the save, taking Cesaro out. Reigns tells Jimmy to get his ass in here and help. Cesaro unloads on Reigns with uppercuts and goes for the Neutralizer but Jey makes the save and beats Cesaro down. Jey yells at his brother to get in the ring and help. Cesaro uppercuts Jey and goes to work on him but Reigns capitalizes, retreating to the floor to get out of harm’s way. Jimmy was also knocked off the apron by Cesaro.

Cesaro grabs Jey and points up at Reigns on the ramp, who is standing with Paul Heyman. Cesaro points at Reigns and drops Jey with a Neutralizer. Cesaro looks up at Reigns, talks some trash and drops Jey with another Neutralizer to send a message as Reigns stares at him from the ramp. Cesaro’s music hits and he taunts Reigns as Reigns raises the title on the ramp, talking trash back at Cesaro in the ring. The WrestleMania Backlash go-home edition of SmackDown goes off the air with Reigns and Cesaro yelling at each other.
