During their write-up on WWE’s ad deal with Progressive for Friday Night SmackDown, AdAge hinted that we could see a major name make an unannounced appearance on the debut episode.
Their story notes that while WWE has announced the names of some of the legends scheduled to appear, there’s could be one major surprise on the show.
“While many other opening night appearances are being kept under wraps, keep an eye peeled for the trash-talking Goliath who is now the WWE’s most storied alum, as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may very well look to pop in on the 20th anniversary of “SmackDown” and promote his upcoming Disney flick, ‘Jungle Cruise.’”, Anthony Crupi from AdAge.com said.
Dave Meltzer has noted for weeks that WWE has been trying to get The Rock on the show but everything depends on his movie schedule. The last update was that talks have been ongoing but the AdAge story seems to hint that he may be locked in for the show.
If The Rock shows up on October 4, then he would join several major names from the past on the show including Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mick Foley, Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, Jerry “The King” Lawler, Sting, Ric Flair and others on the FOX debut show.
