WWE Smackdown Opener:
We go live to Sioux Falls. Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton are the first on camera. Phillips talks about JBL stepping down from the Smackdown. The newest member of the commentary is introduced: Corey Graves.
– Randy Orton vs. Shinsuke Nakamura is plugged for later tonight. The winner earns a shot at the WWE Championship at the Hell in a Cell PPV.
– Backstage, we see Randy Orton staring down the camera. He talks about watching more stars crash and burn during his WWE career. Orton doesn’t doubt Nakamura is a star, but he gave him a big reminder last week with an RKO. “No one rises above the Viper.”
– We remain backstage as a shot of Nakamura warming up is shown. Nakamura says he respects the legend of Randy Orton. He talks about chasing down his own destiny: the WWE Championship. Nakamura says he pain he inflicts on the Viper will be felt.
In the Arena:
We go live to Sioux Falls where Carmella is introduced by James Ellsworth.
Kevin Owens immediately walks out and interrupts. Owens says he has some exciting news: the match Carmella is about to have with Natalya will have a special guest referee. He says he is the referee and walks up to the current referee demanding his shirt.
Shane McMahon’s music plays and he does the Shane-O Shuffle on the stage before he makes his way to the ring.
Shane wants to know how everyone is doing. He wants to nip it in the bud and keep Kevin from doing what he did last week. Kevin cannot be the referee. Shane says he has been patient, but Kevin has been defiant. Shane wants to make one thing clear. Kevin wants to know what that thing is.
Shane says Kevin has to stop blaming him for his losses. At SummerSlam, you blame him for the loss. Shane reminded Kevin and AJ that if they do anything, he will respond. Two weeks ago, you had a chance at the US Title and you picked your referee. Your handpicked referee walked away.
Kevin says Baron Corbin left because Shane pulled him out of the ring. Kevin says Shane never wanted him on Smackdown. Kevin agrees and he says he never wanted to be on Smackdown. Kevin says he would rather be on Raw.
Shane asks if that is because Triple H gave you the Universal Title? That isn’t how it works here. You have to earn titles on Smackdown. Shane tells Kevin not to blame him why he isn’t successful. Blame yourself.
Kevin wants to know if Shane thinks it doesn’t have to do with you. Kevin says Shane has to make everything about him. Why do you need to do these things to get the spotlight? Is it because daddy didn’t give you enough attention? You are willing to make your kids dance around during your entrance.
Shane tells Kevin not to talk about his kids.
Kevin asks about the Hell in a Cell. Are you trying to impress daddy by diving off a cell. Kevin says your family would have been better off if you didn’t survive that helicopter crash. Your dad, your wife, and especially your kids.
Shane attacks Owens and they brawl to the floor. Shane works Owens over, tumbling over the announce table. Officials are out to try and break the fight up as the crowd pops. SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan breaks it up and asks Shane what he’s doing. A big “yes!” chant starts up. Shane regains his composure and walks away as Bryan shakes his head. Fans chant for Shane. We go to commercial.
Backstage:
We see WWE officials helping Kevin Owens to the back. Daniel Bryan walks up and starts apologizing to Owens for what Shane McMahon did. Owens tells Bryan he better enjoy his job while he still has it. “I’m going to turn Smackdown Live into the Kevin Owens Show, literally.” Owens said he is going to sue every member of the McMahon family. “I’m going to take this show down. I’m going to take WWE down. Shane McMahon will regret ever putting his hands on me.” Bryan thinks they have a different way we can handle this. Owens agrees and says he is going to press criminal charges against Shane himself.
Natalya vs. Carmella w/ James Ellsworth
Natalya with a side headlock takedown early on Carmella. Carmella with a spinning head scissors takedown and follows it up with a dropkick for a two count. Natalya with a big slap. Carmella slaps her right back. Carmella bails to the outside as we go back to commercial.
Natalya sends Carmella back into the ring but Carmella goes to the floor. Natalya with a baseball slide and then she slams Carmella’s head into the apron. Natalya with a suplex when they return to the ring and Natalya gets a near fall. Natalya sends Carmella’s head to the mat and applies a reverse chin lock. Carmella with elbows and Natalya tries for a slam but Carmella gets to her feet and hits an Edge-O-Matic for a near fall. Carmella sends Natalya into the turnbuckles. Carmella moonwalks and hits a bronco buster. Carmella chokes Natalya in the ropes.
Carmella with punches and she gets a near fall. Carmella with a body scissors but Natalya turns around and punches Carmella. Carmella with a slap and Carmella applies a guillotine.
We see Naomi watching on the monitor in the back.
Natalya picks up Carmella and slams Carmella to get out of the hold. Carmella blocks a Sharpshooter attempt but Natalya catapults Carmella into the turnbuckles. Carmella gets a near fall.
Ellsworth drops the briefcase in the ring and Carmella says she is not going to cash in. Natalya gets the three count with a rollup.
Winner: Natalya
After the match, Carmella tells James he doesn’t have to say he is sorry because she knows he is sorry. He is a sorry excuse for a human. She says he isn’t even human. Carmella says that Ellsworth is the worst thing she has ever seen. She asks if she needs a genetic defect like Ellsworth. Carmella wonders why he still has a job. Carmella says that he is a charity case and his mother should have given him away at birth. You stuck your chin in her business for the last time. Carmella says they are through.
– Shane McMahon is pacing in the back. We go to comemrcial.
– We are back with the video package for the work WWE is doing through Connor’s Cure and Pediatric Cancer fundraising.
In the Arena:
Dolph Ziggler is out and we get the usual music and look. Ziggler grabs a mic and says the entire WWE Universe has no appreciation for what he can do in the ring. He calls himself the greatest performer in WWE history. Ziggler said they just want some dumb gimmick.
He throws down the mic and heads to the back. John Cena’s music goes off and Ziggler runs back out with a Cena hat on. Ziggler tosses it to the crowd and mocks Cena talking to the camera. He stops himself and says the crowd must want nostalgia.
Ziggler heads to the back. He walks back out with a woman to the “Macho Man” Randy Savage’s theme. Ziggler is wearing a red robe and says the crowd must not be buying it. He gives the robe to the woman and tells her to head to the back.
Ziggler once again goes backstage. He comes back out to Naomi’s theme wearing glowing hair. Ziggler does the Naomi knee slide. He says the crowd must want “dumb ass” stuff like this. Ziggler says anyone can do that, but no one can do what he does in the ring.
– Sami Zayn vs. Aiden English is up next. Back to commercial.
– We are back and Aiden English is in the ring and he is singing . . . until Sami Zayn interrupts with his entrance music.
Sami Zayn vs. Aiden English
Zayn punches and kicks English and then he leaps over English and hits a head scissors take down. Zayn is sent to the apron and he connects with a shoulder and flips over English to get back into the ring. Zayn with a clothesline. English with an Irish whip and Zayn with an elbow. Zayn misses a double jump cross body and English with a La Magistral for the three count.
Winner: Aiden English
After the match, Aiden says he will give you the grand finale as he finishes his song. Zayn chases Aiden to the back.
Backstage:
Daniel Bryan is in his office and The New Day enter and that puts a smile on Daniel’s face. The Usos enter from the other side of the office. Daniel asks for the stipulation for next week’s tag title match. Jey says it is a Sin City Street Fight. Xavier says the odds will forever be in their favor. Big E says they are the dealers and the Usos are about to bust.
Daniel breaks the awkward silence and says he has a call to take. Daniel asks if there is some other way to handle this instead of in the ring. Daniel says he will do it right now. We go to commercial.
In the Arena:
We are back and Daniel Bryan makes his way to the ring and Daniel says he wants Shane McMahon to come to the ring.
Shane walks to the ring and Daniel asks Shane what was he thinking. Shane says things got out of control. Daniel asks Shane if he remembered what Miz said to him on Talking Smack about not being able to get back into the ring. Daniel says he thought about saying the hell with this job and head butt Miz in the face. Daniel says that Shane told him that as the General Manager of Smackdown, he had to put WWE first and the fans first. He also had to put their employees first. Daniel says he restrained himself and did what was best for the company and the show.
You cannot assault their employees or superstars. They cannot run Smackdown like that. Shane says he put Daniel in a tough spot and he takes full responsibiity for his actions. He should not have touched Kevin Owens, but when you talk about his family, he goes into a blind rage and cannot be pulled back. He reminds Daniel that he is father.
Daniel says the WWE is in trouble now. Daniel says he is thinking about the lifes of the people in the back. Shane says he will handle this and talk to Kevin Owens to settle things.
Daniel says it is too late for that. Daniel says he got a call from Shane’s Father and effective immediately per the Chairman of the Board and CEO of the WWE… Shane is indefinitely suspended. Shane exits the ring and takes the chant in as we go back to commercial.
Backstage:
We are back and Renee Young is in the interview area with Jinder Mahal and the Singhs. Jinder is asked who would he rather face between Nakamura and Orton. Jinder says he has beaten Orton many times. All of the hype and social media attention meant nothing when he faced the Modern Day Maharaja. Jinder says he represents Asia better than Nakamura. He will be watching the main event closely. Will it be Randy Orton’s RKO or Nakamura’s Kinshasa. May the best man win only to fall to him. Mahal speaks in Punjabi.
Baron Corbin vs. Tye Dillinger
AJ Styles joins commentary for the match.
The bell rings and Corbin goes to the floor to talk to AJ. Dililnger with a suicide dive and punches to Corbin. Dillinger sends Corbin into the ringside barrier and he kicks Corbin. Corbin kicks Dillinger away and they get back into the ring. Dillinger with chops and a clothesline that sends Corbin over the top rope to the floor.
Corbin returns to the ring and Dillinger with more chops. Corbin with a choke breaker and a forearm to the kidneys. Corbin chokes Dillinger in the ropes and then connects with a forearm to the back of the head. Corbin with a boot to the ribs. Dillinger with an elbow but Corbin with a knee to the midsection followed by a hard Irish whip. Corbin with a forearm but he misses a forearm in the corner. Dillinger with punches but Corbin gets a near fall.
Corbin with a quarter nelson and chin lock. Dillinger with punches. Dillinger leaps over Corbin who goes into the corner and Corbin slides around the ring post and hits a clothesline for a near fall. Dillinger with a jaw breaker and then he sends Corbin to the floor but Dillinger with punches to Corbin. Dillinger with a flying forearm and a boot to the head. Dillinger kicks Corbin in the corner. Dillinger pulls down the knee pad to set for the Tye Breaker but Dillinger cannot get Corbin up. Corbin with a kick and then he kicks Dillinger to the floor. Corbin sends Dillinger into the ringside barrier and then they return to the ring.
Corbin has something to say to AJ because Styles stands up at the announce table. Corbin goes for a choke slam but Dillinger with a rollup for a near fall. Dillinger avoids a splash from Corbin and Dillinger with punches. Corbin punches Dillinger in the throat when the referee is out of position and then Corbin drops Dillinger on the ring post. AJ calls Corbin a cheat shot artist. Corbin with End of Days for the three count.
Winner: Baron Corbin
After the match, Corbin stares AJ down. AJ steps away from the table and talks trash to Corbin, holding the title up at him.

Backstage:
We are back and Tye Dillinger is walking in the back and AJ Styles tells Tye that was a good fight and last week was a good fight when Corbin does not interfere. AJ says the US Open challenge is back next week, but just against you. Tye says that sounds phenomenal.
– We have a Bobby Roode video package. Bobby says this has been the most glorious year for him.
Backstage:
James Ellsworth is walking in the back and he wants to talk to Carmella. He says he knows she despises him because he screwed everything up. He says he is a freak and sub-human and probably belongs in a zoo. He asks for another chance. He says he will keep his mouth shut and stay out of her way. He says he will do whatever she wants. Carmella says they are doing things her way… and she kisses James… and slaps him.
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Randy Orton
We go to the ring and out first comes Shinsuke Nakamura for tonight’s main event. Back to commercial.
Nakamura with a waist lock but Orton with a wrist lock. Nakamura with a reversal into a snap mare and he misses a round kick. Orton tries for the RKO but Nakamura avoids it. They lock up and Nakamura with the lean against the chest break but Orton tries for the IEDDT and Nakamura gets to the floor. We go to commercial.
We are back and Orton with a reverse chin lock. Nakamura with knees but Orton does something that we missed while we saw Mahal in the sky box. Orton drops Nakamura chest first on the top rope and gets a near fall. Orton with a reverse chin lock. Nakamura with an elbow and Orton goes to the floor. Orton with a punch and then he sets for an IEDDT on the floor but Nakamura escapes and sends Orton into the announce table. Orton with a kick and backdrop driver onto the announce table.
They return to the ring and Orton gets a near fall. Orton with kicks but Nakamura with a knee. He misses a round kick but hits an enzuigiri. Nakamura with a flying boot to the head. Nakamura with kicks to Orton. Nakamura has a kick blocked but he hits an enzuigiri. Nakamura with a splash into the corner and he puts Orton on the turnbuckles for the running knee to the ribs and he gets a near fall on Orton. Nakamura goes for the reverse exploder but Orton with elbows and a back breaker.
Nakamura kicks Orton from the apron. Nakamura goes up top but Orton crotches Nakamura. Orton sets for the superplex and he hits it. Orton gets a near fall. Orton gets to his feet and Nakamura tells Orton to bring it. Nakamura blocks a kick and sends Orton face first into the mat. Nakamura with knees to the head. Nakamura charges at Orton but Orton with a power slam for a near fall. Orton sends Nakamura to the apron for the IEDDT and he hits it. Orton sets for the RKO by twisting to the mat and pounding it.
Nakamura counters the RKO into a cross arm breaker and then a triangle. Orton picks up Nakamura and hits a power bomb. Nakamura with a lungblower to counter an RKO and Nakamura sets for Kinshasa and hits it and gets the three count.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura
– We cut backstage where Kevin Owens walks in the back and Daniel Bryan stops Kevin and says Shane is suspended and it is over. Kevin says it isn’t over. Next week, Smackdown will be his playground and Daniel’s nightmare.
Daniel says someone is coming next week to address the situation. Kevin asks if it is Shane’s wife but Daniel tells Kevin it is Vince McMahon.
