WWE RAW Results – May 22, 2017

WWE RAW Opener:

Tonight’s WWE RAW opens up with a promo for the Fatal 5 Way at WWE Extreme Rules in two weeks.We go right to the ring and out comes Bray Wyatt as the Van Del Arena lights up with his fireflies. Michael Cole welcomes us. He’s joined by WWE Hall of Famer Booker T and Corey Graves.

Bray wants everyone to stand up for soon the slaves of the beast will be liberated. Stand up and rejoice for your one true savior, Bray Wyatt. The beast cometh and the beast is all around us. He lives in each and every one of you. He is the leech that society wraps around you. He is the reason your children cannot sleep at night. He is the voice that tells you not to fight but to run.

Bray says he is in control. Soon he will open the chest of the beast and he will feast on his black heart. The beast will die the most brilliant of deaths at the hands of your one true savior, Bray Wyatt. At Extreme Rules, four men will suffer and he will begin his brilliant crusade to slay the beast. Bray says that he alone can protect you. You think Seth Rollins can protect you? Bray says Seth’s road ends because he sacrifices Seth Rollins. Bray says he will sacrifice Samoa Joe too. There are no friends in his world, there are only followers. Just ask Finn Balor.

You can try to live vicariously through him, but even the demon himself will see the truth that only he can slay the beast. Bray Wyatt is the only one who can slay the beast. Bray says there is a fifth. There is one who claims this is his yard. That man is Roman Reigns. Bray asks what does one silly yard mean to a man who owns the world. Bray says this is his world . . .

Roman Reigns’ music plays and he makes his way to the ring.

Roman says if you are going to run his mouth in his yard, he better do it to his face.

Bray laughs and he tells Roman it is good to see him too. Nothing has changed. You let your temper get the best of you. Bray says he is the truth and he is the only one who can beat Brock Lesnar.

Roman says he will beat four guys at Extreme Rules and that includes you. Roman says he will move on and beat Brock Lesnar. Roman says that is the truth. Roman says he is not worried about Extreme Rules now. He is only worried about getting Bray’s ass out of his yard.

Kurt Angle’s music plays and he makes his way to the stage.

Kurt says the Fatal Five Way might be the most important match of the New Era. Kurt says he is looking at two of the favorites. He wants to see who has momentum. Kurt likes the idea of Roman Reigns versus Bray Wyatt right now. Kurt wants a referee.

We go to commercial.

Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns

They lock up and Reigns with a side head lock. Reigns goes for a shoulder tackle and they go to a stalemate. Wyatt punches Reigns but Reigns punches back. Wyatt misses a splash into the corner and Wyatt leans back. Wyatt tries for Sister Abigail but Reigns escapes and Reigns with a boot that sends Wyatt to the floor. Reigns goes to the floor and they exchange punches. They return to the ring and Wyatt kicks Reigns. Wyatt with a uranage and Wyatt does not take advantage of the situation. Wyatt with a punch in the corner followed by an Irish whip.

Wyatt comes out of the corner but Reigns with a flying clothesline. Reigns with NeverEnding Story in the corner but Wyatt with a cross body tackle.

Samoa Joe’s music plays and he makes his way to the ring.

Joe surveys the situation and he tells Wyatt to finish off Reigns. Joe with the Kokina Clutch to Reigns and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner: Roman Reigns (by disqualification)

After the bell, Wyatt also attacks Reigns but Joe grabs him from behind and applies the Clutch. The music hits and out comes Seth Rollins to make the save next. Rollins unloads on Joe and sends him retreating. Wyatt tries to come from behind on Rollins but Reigns makes the save with a Superman punch. Reigns and Rollins stand tall but trade looks as the Extreme Rules theme song plays.

– Still to come, Finn Balor vs. Karl Anderson. Also, Sheamus vs. RAW Tag Team Champion Matt Hardy with the winner picking the stipulation for Extreme Rules. Back to commercial.

Backstage:

Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are in the back and Roman says he did not need Seth’s help. Seth says he was not out there to help Roman. Kurt Angle appears and says they are not done tonight. They will be in a tag match tonight against Bray Wyatt and Samoa Joe.

Elias Samson strums by and Kurt says he just got his attention. Kurt says Elias can get his first match on Raw and it will be against Dean Ambrose.

Akira Tozawa vs. Ariya Daivari

We see Brian Kendrick watching in teh back.

Daivari with punches but Tozawa with a kick and chop. Tozawa with more chops and punches. Daivari tries for a sunset flip but Tozawa rolls throught and kicks Daivari and follows with a back senton. Tozawa misses a splash into the corner and Daivari with a clothesline for a near fall. Daivari with kicks as Kendrick is asked about the match so far. Daivari with a chop but Tozawa with a bicycle kick. Daivari with a forearm but Tozawa with a rana and back heel kick. Tozawa with a Saito suplex. Tozawa goes up top and hits a back senton for the three count.

Winner: Akira Tozawa

Brian Kendrick is asked about the match and he says he is impressed, but not as impressed as everyone else is. He vows to beat Tozawa tomorrow night on 205 Live. We go to commercial.

Backstage:

We are back and Sasha Banks walks in the back. She is asked about her feud with Alicia Fox and her match tonight. Sasha says she will win tonight and get away from Fox and her hot mess of a boyfriend. Alicia Fox and Noam Dar are next to Sasha and Alicia says that Sasha is all alone. Dar says that Sasha is not the Boss but Dar won’t say what she is.

Elias Samson vs. Dean Ambrose

Miz and Maryse join the announcers for the next match.

Elias performs a song before his first match on Raw.

They lock up and Samson with a side head lock. Samson holds on when Ambrose tries to send him off the ropes. Ambrose with elbows and arm drags into an arm bar. Samson puts Ambrose in the ropes and pulls his shoulder into the ropes. Samson with a back elbow and he follows with punches in the corner. Samson slams Ambrose’s head into the apron and follows with a running knee to the head.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Samson with a chin lock and he traps Dean’s arm against Dean’s throat. Ambrose gets back to his feet and he punches Samson. Samson with a knee and clothesline. Samson gets a near fall. Samson with an arm bar into a Fujiwara arm bar. Ambrose gets to his feet and Ambrose with forearms and an elbow. Ambrose with a boot and neck breaker.

Miz comes to the ring and he attacks Samson to get Ambrose disqualified.

Winner: Elias Samson (by disqualification)

JoJo announces Samson the winner as The Miz looks on and applauds. If Ambrose is disqualified at Extreme Rules, he still drops the title. Ambrose chases Miz and finally gets his hands on him but Samson makes the save from behind. Samson drops Ambrose with the snap swinging neckbreaker and leaves him laying as Miz looks on.

– Big Cass is backstage and he’s upset, walking with a referee and asking what happened. They walk up on Enzo Amore, who is laid out. Cass calls for more help and tries to wake Enzo up as we go to commercial.

– We are back and Enzo is being checked on by the officials. He is asked what happened. He says he does not know who jumped him. Kurt says they will get to the bottom of this. Cass says Kurt better hope he finds out who did this before he does.

In the Arena:

Finn Balor makes his way to the ring and says it sounds like Balor Club is in the building. He says we have our hands full because at Extreme Rules they have a Fatal Five Way match where the winner faces Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. Tonight, Karl Anderson stands in his path, but he is focused.

Paul Heyman interrupts and he introduces himself and he reminds everyone that he is the advocate for Brock Lesnar. Some could say he is out here to scout potential victims for his client. Bray painted a portrait of a WWE Universe without the Beast. Paul says he hates to vandalize Bray’s masterpiece, but if Bray wins at Extreme Rules and steps in the ring with client, he will treat Bray like a victim.

Then there is Seth Rollins. He wants wants to compete in a Fatal Freakin Five Way at Extreme Freakin Rules. If he wins, Brock will make him a Freakin Victim. Then there is Samoa Joe. Against Brock, Samoa Joe will be a victim. Then there is the one that laid the Deadman down. Roman Reigns. The odds on favorite. If Roman wins at Extreme Rules and challenges for the Universal Championship, he will not be the be all and end all of WWE. He will be Brock Lesnar’s victim.

Paul says that leads him to Finn Balor. Paul asks to enter the ring and Finn allows him. Paul says that Finn is nobody’s victim. Finn is being portrayed as the underdog, but he is no underdog. Paul says he sees Finn coming. He says Finn said if you can see it, you can achieve it. Paul says Finn is the most talented in ring performer in WWE today. More importantly, Paul believes that Finn believes will take the other competitors to the extreme. Paul says that he believes that Finn does not look at Brock Lesnar as the Universal Champion, you believe that Brock is the same as the other competitors in the Fatal Five Way Match. Finn thinks that Brock will become Finn Balor’s victim.

Paul says that of all of the possibilities at Extreme Rules, he is most intrigued at the thought of Finn Balor versus Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. Paul wishes Finn luck in the Fatal Five Way and offers his hand and Finn shakes it.

Finn says he is glad that Paul is here, but he wishes Brock was here. As Brock’s advocate, maybe you can give him a message. Tell Brock at Extreme Rules he will win the Fatal Five Way Match and he will go on to face Brock for the championship that he never lost. Tell Brock that Finn Balor will beat Brock Lesnar.

Heyman listens and nods as the music hits and out comes Karl Anderson with Luke Gallows. We go to commercial.

Finn Balor vs. Karl Anderson

Anderson punches and kicks Balor as the match is joined in progress. Anderson with a sunset flip but Balor rolls through and hits a drop kick. Balor with boots to Anderson. Balor with punches and kicks. Gallows gets on the apron and that allows Anderson to hit a back elbow and clothesline. Anderson chokes Balor in the ropes and Gallows with a punch while Anderson distracts the referee. Anderson gets a near fall.

Anderson with a reverse chin lock. Balor with elbows but Anderson with forearms and he returns to the reverse chin lock. Anderson with a back breaker and he gets a near fall. Anderson returns to the reverse chin lock. Balor with forearms and Anderson with a European uppercut, but Balor with a Pele Kick. Balor gets his boots up when Anderson charges into the corner. Balor with elbows and a drop kick to the temple. Balor chops Anderson and Irish whips him and chops Anderson. Anderson with a boot but Balor with an enzuigiri to knock Anderson off the turnbuckles.

Balor with a baseball slide to Gallows and a running boot on the apron. Balor with an enzuigiri to Anderson from the apron. Balor comes off the turnbuckles but Anderson gets up and Balor lands on his feet. Anderson with a spinebuster for a near fall. Balor with a double leg take down and a double stomp. Balor with a flip dive onto Anderson and Gallows. Balor with Slingblade and he hits the running drop kick that sends Anderson into the turnbuckles. Balor goes up top and hits Coup de Grace for the three count.

Winner: Finn Balor

After the match, Balor stands tall and heads to the ramp as we get replays.

Alicia Fox (with Noam Dar) vs. Sasha Banks

They lock up and Banks with an arm drag. Banks with a drop toe hold and Alicia gets to the ropes and goes to the floor. Sasha with a baseball slide to Alicia and she sends Alicia back into the ring. Dar mocks Banks and Fox with a running boot to Banks and she gets a near fall. Fox with knees to the back and a reverse chin lock. Fox with an Irish whip but Sasha with a boot. Sasha sends Fox into the turnbuckles and hits a double knee strike. Alicia with an arm wringer into the turnbuckles. Banks puts Alicia on the turnbuckles and hits a double knee drop and gets the three count.

Winner: Sasha Banks

After the match, Dar has something to say to Banks and Sasha slaps Dar in the face. Fox attacks Banks from behind and she hits a scissors kick. Fox and Dar celebrate over Banks.

Backstage:

Kalisto and Apollo Crews talk in the back and Kalisto wants to know what is wrong with Crews. Kalisto says that Crews is fighting Titus’ battles. He wonders if Crews attacked Enzo. Crews says he did not attack Enzo. Titus is offering him opportunities.

Titus stops by and he he says Kalisto is trying to be the first international client for the Titus Brand. He does not care how the money comes in. Kalisto says he does not want to be in any Titus Brand. Titus says he is going to have Apollo teach him about respect. He tells Kalisto he made a mistake. We go to commercial.

– We are back and it is time to take a look at the troubles between the members of Golden Truth.

Backstage:

Booker says Goldust has not been himself the last few weeks. Goldust says the brightest lights are gold and the brightest of them all. They never rust. Infinite luster, but R Truth’s light is flickering. He is holding on for another chance to shine. Goldust says he is back in the director’s chair now. He controls how and when his next film will end. The Golden Age is back.

Backstage:

Alexa Bliss is in the interview area. She is asked about her match at Extreme Rules. We see what happened last week on Raw when Alexa hit Bayley with a kendo stick. We see photos of the mark from the kendo stick. Alexa asks if this is where she is supposed to feel bad for Bayley, but she doesn’t. She wants to do it again. The first to get their hands on the kendo stick will get to use it at Extreme Rules. She will make sure that Bayley’s entire body is full of marks. She knows that Bayley is thinking of some fairy tale ending where she is the champion. Bayley cannot be extreme. Alexa says she will do to Mickie James what she will do to Bayley. She will take her dreams and turn them into nightmares.

– We have a video package for the Roman Reigns and Braun Strowan feud. Back to commercial.

Kalisto vs. Apollo Crews (with Titus O’Neil)

Kalisto with a waist lock and Crews with a hip lock take down. Kalisto with kicks and Kalisto walks on his hands and then sends Crews across the ring with a head scissors. Crews goes to the floor. Crews with a drop kick for a near fall. Crews with a deadlift delayed vertical suplex for a near fall. Crews with a front face lock on Kalisto. Kalisto with a jaw breaker but Crews with a jumping round kick for a near fall. Crews picks up Kalisto for the toss power bomb but Kalisto with a victory roll for a near fall. Titus yells at Crews and Kalisto hits Salida Del Sol for the three count.

Winner: Kalisto

After the match, Titus enters the ring and tries to talk with Crews, who looks a bit disappointed.

– Still to come, Hardy vs. Sheamus. Back to commercial.

Matt Hardy (with Jeff Hardy) vs. Sheamus (with Cesaro)
Winner Chooses the Stipulation for their Match at Extreme Rules

They lock up and Sheamus pushes Matt away. They lock up again and Sheamus with a clean break. They lock up again and Matt with a side head lock. Matt holds on when Sheamus tries to send him off the ropes. Matt with a side head lock take down. Sheamus with forearms to the ribs and a shoulder tackle.

Sheamus with a side head lock and hip lock take down. Matt with punches but Sheamus blocks a hip toss. Matt clotheslines Sheamus over the top rope to the floor. Matt with a kick and he tries for a Twist of Fate but Sheamus escapes and he goes to the floor.

Matt goes to the floor and Sheamus sends Matt into the apron and Sheamus follows with punches. Sheamus pulls Matt to the apron and connects with forearms to the kidneys and then he connects with forearms across the chest. Sheamus with a running shoulder tackle that knocks Matt off the apron and into the ringside barrier. Sheamus brings Matt back into the ring and Sheamus with a clothesline off the turnbuckles for a near fall. Sheamus with punches. Matt with a boot and rollup for a near fall. Matt with punches but Sheamus with an elbow.

Sheamus with an Irish whip but Sheamus misses a shoulder in the corner. Matt sends Sheamus into the turnbuckles and then he goes to the turnbuckles. Sheamus with a forearm followed by a Finlay Slam for a near fall.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Sheamus with a cobra clutch on Matt. Matt with forearms but Sheamus with a kick followed by White Noise for a near fall. Sheamus puts Matt on the turnbuckles and Jeff gets on the apron and that is enough to allow Matt to recover and hit a tornado DDT for a near fall. Matt with punches but Sheamus gets Matt up for a power slam but Matt gets to his feet. Matt with a clothesline and he tries for a bulldog but Sheamus pushes him away.

Matt with a Side Effect for a near fall. Matt sets for the Twist of Fate and he kicks Sheamus but Sheamus sends him into the ropes. Sheamus blocks another Side Effect and Sheamus with a running knee for a near fall but Matt gets his hand on the rope to stop the count. Matt avoids the Brogue Kick and Matt goes to the floor. Jeff with a splash to Cesaro off the apron. Sheamus kicks Jeff on the floor and Matt hits a Twist of Fate for the three count.

Winner: Matt Hardy

Matt and Jeff are asked what they are choosing as their stipulation. Matt tells Sheamus and Cesaro at Extreme Rules, they will be locked up and will be torn down inside a steel cage. We go to commercial.

Tony Nese vs. Austin Aries

Back from the break and Tony Nese is in the ring. WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville is in there talking to him. Austin Aries is out next.

The bell rings and Nese goes right for the injured knee as Neville watches from ringside. Aries takes control early on and hits a corkscrew elbow to the back of the head from the corner. Aries with a 2 count. Aries with a drop toe hold as he takes Nese to the mat and keeps him grounded, looking back at Neville. Nese avoids a Last Chancery.

Nese looks to turn it around but Aries rolls him up for a 2 count. Nese avoids another Last Chancery attempt. They end up on the floor and Aries lands a dive. Aries stares at Neville and makes his way back in but Nese kicks the bad leg out, taking advantage of the distraction. Neville cheers Nese on as he takes control and works Aries around the ring.

Aries slides out of a suplex but lands on the bad knee. Aries fights back but Nese is right on him. Nese runs into a boot. Aries goes to the top but Nese catches him on the way down with an elbow to the gut. Nese lifts Aries for a vertical suplex and keeps him in the air. Aries turns that into a guillotine. Nese fades down to one knee as Aries keeps the guillotine locked. Nese powers up and tries to throw Aries but Aries keeps him locked and turns it into the Last Chancery for the win.

Winner: Austin Aries

After the match, Aries stands tall and stares out at Neville. We go to replays. Aries hits the ramp and indicates he’s coming for the title as Nese and Neville look on from the ring. Neville suddenly attacks Nese from behind and applies the Rings of Saturn. Aries looks on from the ramp and applauds. Aries yells at Neville and challenges him to come try that on him.

– Still to come, Alexa Bliss will be in action.

Mickie James vs. Alexa Bliss

They lock up and Mickie with a waist lock. Alexa with a standing switch but Mickie with a standing switch of her own. They continue to go back and forth until Alexa gets to the ropes to stop things. They lock up again and Alexa backs Mickie into the corner. Alexa with a clean break but she kicks Mickie in the corner. Mickie with a punch and kicks in the corner. Mickie with a back heel kick and flying clotheslines. Mickie with a neck breaker for a near fall.

Mickie with cross faces to Alexa and she sets for a DDT but Alexa escapes. Mickie with a snap mare and running kick to the face. Mickie with an elbow and she tries for a head scissors but Alexa escapes. Alexa with a punch and DDT for the three count.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

After the match, Alexa gets a kendo stick from under the ring. Alexa hits Mickie across the back of the neck. Bayley comes to the ring and Bayley trips Alexa and grabs the kendo stick. Alexa gets out of the ring before Bayley can swing at her. We go to commercial.

– Back from a break and we get a plug for WWE 205 Live with Tozawa vs. Kendrick in a Street Fight.

Samoa Joe and Bray Wyatt vs. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins

We go to the ring for tonight’s main event and Bray Wyatt is out first. Samoa Joe is out next. Seth Rollins is out first for his team. Roman Reigns is out last.

Rollins and Reigns argue over who should start the match. Wyatt will start for his team. Reigns goes to the apron and Rollins punches Wyatt and connects with a kick. Rollins knocks Joe off the apron and he sends Wyatt to the floor. Rollins sends Wyatt into the ringside barrier and he punches Joe on the floor. Rollins sends Wyatt back into the ring. Rollins avoids Joe but Wyatt knocks him off the apron as we go to commercial.

We are back and Rollins with a drop kick to Wyatt. Reigns tags in and clotheslines Wyatt a few times. Reigns with a flying clothesline and kick followed by a Samoan drop. Reigns sets for the Superman punch but Wyatt does the crab walk. Joe distracts Reigns and Wyatt hits Reigns from behind. Reigns is sent to the floor and Joe sends Reigns into the ringside barrier. Joe slams Reigns head into the apron and they go back into the ring. Joe kicks Reigns

We see Angle watching this match from the back while Joe snap mares Reigns and works on the neck. Reigns punches Joe but Joe sends Reigns into the corner and follows with an elbow and enzuigiri for a near fall. Wyatt tags in and kicks and punches Reigns. Wyatt with a splash into the corner and then he hugs the ring post. Wyatt gets a near fall. Wyatt with a chin lock using Reigns’ arm for extra pressure. Wyatt sends Reigns to the floor and Joe tries to send Reigns into the ringside barrier but Reigns reverses and sends Joe into the ring post.

Reigns drops Wyatt on the top rope. Wyatt knocks Rollins off the apron but Reigns sends Wyatt to the floor. Joe sends Wyatt back into the ring and he tags in. Rolins tags in and he hits a springboard forearm followed by a boot to the head. Rollins with a Blockbuster and then he hits a slingshot pescado onto Wyatt. Rollins with slingblade to Joe followed by a running forearm. Wyatt grabs Rollins’ foot. Rollins kicks Wyatt away and Joe goes to the floor. Rollins with a suicide dive onto both men. Rollins goes up top but Wyatt tries to stop him and Rollins is distracted long enough to allow Joe to stop him and he punches Rollins.

Joe and Wyatt set for a double superplex but Rollins fights them off. Rollins with a cross body to Wyatt and Joe. Rollins with a waist lock to set up the knee. Wyatt stops him. Reigns with a punch to Wyatt and then to Joe. Rollins with an enzuigiri. Reigns goes for the Superman punch but Joe moves and he catches Rollins. Rollins argues with Joe. Wyatt pulls Reigns to the floor and Joe applies the Kokina Clutch. Rollins passes out and the referee calls for the bell.

Winners: Samoa Joe and Bray Wyatt

After the match, we cut to the back where Finn Balor tells Kurt Angle he did a hell of a job with the main event but he wants to be part of the main event. Kurt says he won’t get a chance to face one of them because it will be Finn Balor versus Samoa Joe versus Bray Wyatt in a Triple Threat Match. Kurt says Roman Reigns will face Seth Rollins next week.

We go to credits.
