The intense hostility between WWE United States Champion Trick Williams and Baron Corbin will reach a boiling point this week as the two rivals are officially set to be locked inside a steel cage.
WWE SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis took to social media to announce the high-stakes match for the upcoming September 25 episode from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In a video statement released by the company, Aldis explained that the violent nature of their ongoing feud over the United States Championship left him with no choice but to escalate the match stipulations:
“Good morning. It’s your SmackDown GM Nick Aldis. Sometimes a conflict between two people reaches such a level that resolution is no longer an option, only escalation. I believe that the rivalry between Trick Williams and Baron Corbin over the United States Championship is such a conflict. So what do we do? It’s clear to me that these two men will not be contained by the confines of traditional competition. So I’ve decided that it’s time for escalation. And that escalation will take place live this Friday night on SmackDown on USA Network and around the world on Netflix from Indianapolis, Indiana, where Baron Corbin will challenge Trick Williams for the United States Championship inside a steel cage.”
With the steel cage structure descending to surround the ring, the stipulation is designed to keep outside interference at a minimum and ensure a definitive winner between Williams and his veteran challenger.
The September 25 broadcast of WWE SmackDown will air live on USA Network in North America and stream globally on Netflix.
