Dorian Van Dux has been ruled out of in-ring competition after suffering a punctured lung, throwing a major wrench into scheduled storylines for the September 22 episode of NXT.
Van Dux was originally advertised to team alongside “Super” Sean Legacy and Zilla Fatu in a high-profile six-man tag team contest against BirthRight (Lexis King, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, and Uriah Connors).
During a backstage segment aired on the broadcast, Legacy and Fatu were shown conversing when Legacy broke the news that Van Dux was not medically cleared to step into the ring due to the lung injury. Van Dux immediately walked into the frame, attempting to brush off medical advice and insisting he still wanted to compete.
However, Legacy put his foot down, emphasizing that Van Dux needed to follow doctor’s orders and rest so he can return at 100 percent health for their upcoming tournament run.
The injury comes at a terrible time for the duo, as Van Dux and Legacy are officially entered into the 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The pair is scheduled to square off against international standout tag team Tokyo Bad Boys (Kento & Takuma) in the opening round, with the winner advancing to face AAA World Tag Team Champions El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. & Galeno.
WWE has not yet confirmed a specific timetable for Van Dux’s recovery or whether the injury will force a change to the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic bracket.
