Three-time Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes made a special appearance to kick off the September 22 episode of WWE NXT on The CW, officially ushering in the start of the 2026 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Rhodes narrated the opening video package for the broadcast, celebrating the legacy of his late father, “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, and highlighting the prestige of the tournament created in his honor.
During the presentation, “The American Nightmare” confirmed that he will be present live and in person at the tournament finals to present the coveted Dusty Cup trophy to the winning tag team.
Although Rhodes is currently featured on the WWE SmackDown brand—where he remains locked in an intense storyline with longtime rival Randy Orton—his crossover appearance underscores the importance of the tournament across all WWE brands.
The 2026 iteration of the single-elimination tournament features a 14-team field, with first-round action launching on tonight’s episode and top champions receiving byes into subsequent rounds.
